Golden Eagles Home Opener Rescheduled to Thursday Afternoon

BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport baseball teams home and SUNYAC opener originally scheduled for Friday, March 25th against Fredonia State (9-5) has been pushed up to Thursday, March 24th and will be contested as a double header with the first pitch set to be thrown out at 1:00pm. The third game of the series is scheduled for Saturday with a time and location to be announced later.
 
The Golden Eagles increased its winning streak to eight straight games after defeating the University of Rochester YellowJackets on Tuesday night at Towers Field in Rochester, NY by a score of 12-6.

Freshman pitcher Nick Ianniello (1-0) recorded the win in the team's victory after coming into relief with one out in the fourth inning with the Golden Eagles ahead by a score of 6-2. Over three innings, Ianniello practically silenced the YellowJackets bats only allowing two hits while striking out four batters on 44 total pitchers.
 
Center fielder Nicholas Pastore, third basemen Matt O'Dair and first basemen Ryan Voight all recorded multiple hits in the game. With two hits, Pastore recorded two doubles, scored two runs, and drove in one RBI. Shortstop Justin Pangburn notched his second homer of the season on shot over the left field fence to collect three RBI.
 
Batting Statistics
James Houlahan currently leads the team in batting average as the leadoff hitter and utility man currently holds a .342 batting average. In 38 at bats, he's recorded 13 hits, scored 11 runs, driven in 10 RBI and recorded one double. Tom Kretzler the reigning SUNYAC PrestoSports Baseball Athlete of the Week sits just below Houlahan in batting average with .341. Kretzler has a 1.006 OPS, .614 slugging percentage. In 44 at bats, he's tallied 15 hits, 11 runs and 11 RBIs, six doubles and two home runs including a grand slam. He adds to his SUNY Brockport baseball home run record with a total of 23 career homeruns.
 
Conference Individual Statistics Standings
Brockport's Nicholas Pastore currently leads the SUNYAC in triples as the fifth year senior has already recorded three triples so far this season to lead the conference. He is two triples away from tying the schools single season triples record of five. Ryan Mansell's discipline at the plate ranks him first amongst batters walked. Jake Sisto's eight hits by pitches sits him atop the conferences most hit players.
 
Pitching Statistics
Andrew Huffman (2-0) leads the SUNYAC with the lowest earned runs average as through 17.1 innings the fifth year senior has not allowed any earned runs to maintain a 0.00 ERA. He ranks second in the conference amongst strikeouts per nine-innings with 12.98 with 25 strikeouts over 17.1 innings. He's also only one of four pitchers in the SUNYAC to have thrown a complete game so far this season. Adam Douglas (1-0) has been one of the team's best relief pitchers as in three appearances where he's pitched a total of four innings, he has not allowed any runs and has struck out five batters during his time on the mound. Nick Ianniello (1-0) has appeared twice out of the bullpen so far this season where he has not allowed any earned runs and has struck out seven batters through four innings on the mound.
 
Looking at Fredonia
Fredonia State lost its most recent game on Saturday, March 19th to Keuka College in Leesburgh, Florida by a score of 6-10. Tyler Phillips has been the team's best hitter as the senior utility player holds a .468 batting average through 47 total at bats with 22 hits, 20 RBIs, 12 stolen bases and five doubles. He also holds a .702 slugging percentage and a .500 OBP.
 
Kevin Mahon, Nathan O'Brochta, Derrick Walters and Andrew O'Connor are some of the Blue Devils most used pitchers as each have already thrown over 10 innings so far this season. Mahon leads the pitching staff as with 20.1 innings pitched, he's recorded 21 strikeouts, given up 12 hits and four earned runs with a 1.77 ERA and 9.30 K/9.
 
What's Next
Following this weekend's SUNYAC opener, the Golden Eagles will host St. John Fisher College on Wednesday, March 30th at the Clark V. Whited Complex with first pitch scheduled for 3pm.
