Baseball Schedule Changes for St. John Fisher & Oneonta

BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport baseball team (13-2) will have schedule changes for this week's upcoming games against non-conference opponent St. John Fisher (7-8) and this weekend's SUNYAC series opponent Oneonta (5-13).

Schedule Changes
Wednesday's originally scheduled game has now been pushed back to Thursday, March 31st at 3:00 pm with this weekend's SUNYAC series pushed back to a single game on Saturday with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 3rd.

Winning Streak
The Golden Eagles recently extended its winning streak to a new program record of 11-straight wins following its series sweep of the Fredonia State Blue Devils (9-8) over the weekend. The Golden Eagles' 11-game winning streak is the longest active winning streak throughout all of Division III baseball.

Dominance on the Mound
Fifth-year senior Pitcher Andrew Huffman (4-0) kept his 0.00 ERA intact throwing six scoreless innings of baseball in game one of Thursday's doubleheaders.

Backed by Huffman's scoreless 23.1 innings pitched, six other Golden Eagles have recorded 0.00 ERA's including Adam Douglas (1-0), Keegan Jarvis, Matthew Denatale, Michael Heilig, Jake Jempty (1-0), and Ryan Peters (1-0). Douglas and Jarvis have been two of the Golden Eagles' most effective relief pitchers coming out of the bullpen this season.

Freshman two-way player Nick Ianniello (1-0) has posted a 1.29 ERA through seven-innings pitched. Colin Pytlak (2-0) has recorded a 1.69 ERA through 5.1 innings pitched while Tom Kretzler (2-1) and Matt McGowan (1-0) have thrown the second and third most innings this season. Kretzler has been on the mound for 19.2 innings with a listed 2.75 ERA while Matt McGowan holds a 1.88 ERA through 14.1 innings.

The Golden Eagles currently have the best pitching staff in all of Division III baseball. With a combined 1.74 ERA through a total of 119 innings pitched only allowing 23 earned runs,

Athlete of the Week
Fifth-year senior Nicholas Pastore earned the SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week award following a 7-15 performance at the plate in four games last week. His triple against Fredonia State tied him for the second-most triples in a single season and career. With four triples this season and eight in a career, he is one triple shy of tying both records for first place. The single-season record was set back in 2013 by Dan Hurlimann (5) and the most triples in a career was set by Jim Voutour (9) who played from 1985-1988.

Record Breaker
Tom Kretzler is on course to break numerous program career records this season. So far, he is two runs away from breaking the most runs scored in a career (127) which was set by John Morgan who played from 2002-2005. If he plays in all 40 regular-season games this season Kretzler will also break the school's career record of most games played. He currently has played in 149 games and just 15 games into the season would need to play in 23 more games to break the record of 172 games played in a career set by Max Zimmerman who played from 2008-2011. His 15 RBIs this season bumped him up into second place on the all-time RBIs list with 112. The current record was also set by Zimmerman with 149 career RBIs.

Kretzler already holds the record for most home runs hit by a player in their career at Brockport and continues to add this record as he has hit a team-high of four home runs so far this season for a total of 25 career home runs.

Team Leaders
James Houlahan leads the team in batting average as the fifth-year utility man is batting .362 on 17 hits in 47 at-bats with 12 RBIs.

Ryan Mansell currently leads the team in on-base percentage reaching base .518% of the time as the senior has drawn 17 walks in 14 games played. When Mansell does get on base, he is also a threat as he's stolen a team-high eight bases this season

Looking at St. John Fisher
The Cardinals recently split a series against York College of Pennsylvania (8-9) on Saturday as Fisher lost game 1 4-12 before defeating York 17-4 in game two of the doubleheader. Michael Beimel leads the Cardinals in batting average as he's recorded 17 hits in 53 at-bats scoring eight runs while driving in 11 RBIs. Noah Campanelli holds the team's second-best batting average of .305 with 18 hits in 59 at-bats. He is currently in a three-way tie for the most home runs on the team this season with three. Also tied with Campanelli is Ben Lavery who's batting .226 and Brian Norsen whose current average at the plate is .164

Alex Teska (0-3) is the team's go-to pitcher as he's pitched a team-high 23.2 innings. During that time on the mound, he's racked up a 6.46 ERA, allowed 17 earned runs on 35 hits as batters are averaging .340 against the senior pitcher. Connor McHugh (2-1) is the team's most effective starting pitcher wherein two starts and six appearances he's pitched 16.1 innings and has a 2.20 era
