Brockport Lands Four on All-SUNYAC First Team; Kretzler Named Player of the Year & Huffman Earns Pitcher of the Year

The nationally-ranked No. 22 SUNY Brockport baseball team landed four student-athletes on the SUNYAC All-Conference First Team in a release by the conference office on Monday. Tom Kretzler was named the Bob Wallace Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and Andrew Huffman was named the Don Axtell Pitcher of the Year.  Kretzler (Utility), Huffman (Pitcher), Nicholas Pastore (Outfield) and Matthew Colucci (Relief Pitcher) each earned all-conference first team status. 

Brockport has earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships and will host a four team regional Friday, Saturday & Sunday at the Clark V. Whited Baseball Complex. The hosting rights marks the first time in program-history that the Golden Eagles will host NCAA Baseball Tournament action. The opening game of the double-elimination regional tournament will feature Wheaton (MA) vs. Johnson & Whales University (Providence) on Friday at 10 a.m. Game two on Friday will feature Baldwin Wallace and Brockport at 1:30 p.m.

The Golden Eagles recently finished as the runner-up at the SUNYAC Conference Tournament and currently holds a record of 33-9 overall.  They entered this past weekend's tournament as the No. 3 seed, defeating Plattsburgh and Oswego on their way to the tournament championship game against Cortland. Brockport's 33 wins are the second most in program-history.

Kretzler is the first player in program-history to win consecutive SUNYAC Player of the Year honors and he is just the third player in the history of the award to accomplish the feat.  Kretlzer is making his fourth career appearance on the SUNYAC All-Conference Team. He was a first team pick in 2018, a second team selection in 2019 and a first team pick in 2021. He is just the fourth player in program-history to be named the conference's player of the year.
He ranks eighth nationally and first in the conference with 16 home runs. He also ranks in the top 15 nationally and second in the SUNYAC with 62 RBIs.  His slugging percentage leads the league (.795). He also leads the conference and ranks in the top 30 nationally in ERA (1.90). His five complete games leads the league and ranks 13th nationally. Kretzler is now the program's all-time leader in career games played (176), hits (201), hits in a season (62), home runs (37), home runs in a season (16), RBI's (159), RBIs in a season (62), runs scored (155), and runs scored in a season (45). On the mound, he has pitched in 115.0 career innings and has 11 wins to go along with 122 strikeouts.

Huffman is the first player in program-history to earn the SUNYAC Don Axtell Pitcher of the Year award.  He is earning his second straight all-conference nod after being named to the second team in 2021. Huffman ranks in the top 75 nationally and second in the conference with a 2.44 ERA.  He ranks 37th nationally and first in the conference with a school-record 88 strikeouts this year and he ranks in the top 50 nationally with an average of 11.94 strikeouts per nine innings. His eight wins on the mound this year lead the SUNYAC. He appeared in 11 games for Brockport and pitched 66.1 innings, holding opponents to a .207 batting average.  In three seasons in the green and gold he has 17 appearances and 13 wins in 109.1 innings pitched. 

Nicholas Pastore is making his second straight appearance on an all-conference team after earning second team status a year ago. Pastore ranks third on the team with a .345 batting average and he leads the SUNYAC with nine triples.  He posted 51 hits, 40 runs scored, 17 stolen bases, six home runs and eight doubles.  Pastore is the college's all-time record holder in career triples (12) and triples in a single season (nine). He has appeared in 109 career games and has 90 runs scored, 123 hits, nine home runs and 77 RBI's.

Colucci is making his first career appearance on an all-conference team for the Golden Eagles as a relief pitcher. He has appeared in 14 games this season and he boasts a 1-1 record with two saves.  He has a 3.93 ERA and 26 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .180 batting average.  He had a season-high eight strikeouts against Oswego on April 24th
