Golden Eagles Announce Restructured Administrative Team Ahead of Upcoming Season

SUNY Brockport Director of Athletics Erick Hart has announced the promotion of several staff members from within the department before the start of the academic year, including Gil Burgmaster, Kathryn Stiner, Steve Pike and Sean Kemp.  Burgmaster was named the associate athletic director, Stiner was named the assistant athletic director and senior woman administrator, Pike was named the assistant athletic director and compliance director, while Kemp was promoted to director of athletic communications. 

"We're excited for the administrative team we've been able to put in place to help provide the support where Brockport student-athletes and coaches can flourish and succeed on the playing surface and in the classroom," said Hart.  "Our goal is to provide a transformational, holistic student-athlete experience while competing for conference and national championships.  We believe our new staff structure will allow us to provide that type of environment."

Burgmaster Profile
Gil Burgmaster, who previously served as the assistant athletic director and director of athletic communications since 2019, will now oversee marketing and external relations. The role includes ensuring the success of the Golden Eagle Society and the department's fundraising and sponsorship efforts in collaboration with the Division of Advancement. The role will also oversee the athletic communications department and provide leadership for athletic marketing, communication and fan engagement, and community outreach regarding partnership and/or community service opportunities.

Stiner Profile
Kathryn Stiner, who previously served as the coordinator of events and facility operations at Brockport since 2019, will now oversee all internal operations including business management, events coordination and she will act as the senior woman administrator for the department.  Stiner will assist the athletic director with budget development and management. She will oversee the coordinator of events and facilities to ensure the success of facility scheduling, rentals and event coordination.  

Pike Profile
Steve Pike, who previously served as the head women's volleyball coach since 2013, will step away from that role and join the administration as the assistant athletic director for compliance and student development.  Pike's compliance coordinator role includes duties such as conducting eligibility meetings and administering all forms for each team at the start of their respective seasons. He will be responsible for educating coaches and staff on NCAA rules and rule modifications, while also certifying and monitoring all student-athlete academic and athletic eligibility. His student development responsibilities will include serving as advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Student Athletes for Equity (SAFE) committee.

Kemp Profile
Sean Kemp, who served as the assistant director of athletic communications at Brockport since 2019, will now lead the athletic communications department. His responsibilities will include providing timely updates to supporters through the dissemination of news releases, alumni and booster newsletters and other publications as well as website development, and implementation of a social media plan. He will also manage all in-game operations for statistics, scorekeeping and public address of all athletic events and coordination of video streaming and live stats for athletic events.

Continuing A Tradition of Success
The 2021-2022 edition of the Golden Eagles produced 22 All-American's, 83 All-Region selections and an incredible 109 All-Conference selections. Two teams earned a spot in the coveted National Tournament and 16 individual student athletes qualified for the NCAA Championships.
 
Brockport earned an ECAC Bowl Game title as well as an National Collegiate Gymnastics Association East Regional Championship.
 
Brockport's programs produced 14 major individual conference award winners, including seven Conference Players of the Year. Eight teams were nationally ranked throughout the year and seven program's qualified for their respective conference tournament.

Brockport's athletic staff hosted several major events on campus including:
• SUNYAC Indoor & Outdoor Championships
• NCAA Div. III Baseball Championship Regional
• SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament Quarterfinals
• SUNYAC Men's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals
• SUNYAC Volleyball Tournament Quarterfinals
• ECAC Football Bowl Game
 
More than 250 student-athletes were named to SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll after completing the Spring semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.30+.
