Baseball Travels South to Compete in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational

Brockport, New York- The Golden Eagles baseball team will head south to compete in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational from Saturday, March 11th to Sunday, March 19th.
 
Last Time Out: Brockport traveled to Virginia last weekend seeking their first victory of the new season. The Green and Gold had a successful weekend, securing their first win of the year and going 2-1 on the weekend.
 
Brockport dropped the first game of the weekend 8-2 against Roanoke College. OF Nicholas Pastore was the lone Golden Eagles with multiple hits in the game, going 2 for 4.
 
Brockport secured their first win of the year with an 8-4 victory over Franklin and Marshall. Junior Zach Eldred came through with a 3 hit performance with a triple, and James Houlahan and Brian Tietjen both drove in 2 runs each to fuel the offense. P Matt McGowan went 5 solid innings, giving up just one run and punching out four batters.
 
Brockport wrapped up action in Virginia with a 5-3 upset win over #15 Marietta. Brockport jumped out to a 5-0 lead through four, fueled by 3 hit efforts from Zach Eldred and James Houlahan, who went a combined 6 for 7 at the plate. P Matthew Colucci earned his first win of the year going 7 strong innings and striking out six. P Anthony Lapine secured his first save of the year, striking out three while going 2 innings scoreless. Brockport improved to 2-3 on the season over the weekend.

SUNYAC Player of the Week: On Monday the SUNYAC announced that Brockport's Zach Eldred was chosen as the Baseball Athlete of the Week. Eldred reached base safely 3 times or more in all 3 games in Virginia and has started the year slashing an absurd .429/.550/.714 through 5 games.

UMass Boston- March 12th 6:30 pm
Wheaton College- March 13th 10:30 am
Stockton University- March 16th 1:30 pm
New York University- March 17th at 1:30 pm
Springfield College- March 18th at 1:30 pm
Lawrence University- March 19th at 9:30 am
 
Scouting Clarkson: Clarkson is 0-1 to start the year following a 12-6 loss in their opener to St. John Fisher. Brockport has won 6 of the last 10 matchups since 2009, including a 10-7 win in their last meeting.
 
Scouting UMASS Boston: UMASS Boston begins the year 2-0, most recently defeating Framingham State 7-1. Brockport and UMASS have only met once since 2009 and was won by UMASS 4-3 in walk-off fashion.
 
Scouting Wheaton: Wheaton has gone 2-1 to begin the year, with both wins coming against Nichols College, 11-5 in the season opener and 15-6 on Monday. Wheaton and Brockport faced off last year as ranked teams, with #22 Wheaton defeating #23 Brockport 6-2 in the lone matchup between the two schools.
 
Scouting Stockton: Stockton college has opened the year 3-2, coming off a 2-1 loss followed by a 12-2 win in their doubleheader against Castleton University. Brockport met Stockton in last year's tournament, posting a dominant 11-0 victory in their lone meeting against the Ospreys.
 
Scouting NYU: NYU got off a 4-0 start before most recently losing back-to-back against McDaniel College and currently sit at 4-2. NYU and Brockport will meet for the first time in Florida this weekend,
 
Scouting Springfield: Springfield started the year with five straight postponements before losing their opener 7-3 against Western New England. Brockport has won the two matchups dating back to 2015 by a combined run total of 27-3.
 
Scouting Lawrence: Lawrence University has started the year 2-2, winners of back-to-back games after beginning the season 0-2.
 
Up Next: Following the week in Florida, the Golden Eagles will head to Rochester to face the University of Rochester Yellowjackets on Wednesday, March 22nd at 4 pm.
