Brockport, NY – This weekend the SUNY Brockport baseball team is back in action, as the Golden Eagles travel to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. They will play a doubleheader (3pm start) against Keystone on Friday and a doubleheader (3:30pm start) against Bridgewater State at The Ripken Experience Complex.

Follow Along: Live stats and live video will be available for the games this weekend down in South Carolina. Check the following links on Friday and Saturday to keep up with the Golden Eagles: Live Video | Live Stats

Opening Weekend: Brockport started the season last weekend with a pair of road contests on opening weekend. The team lost the first game of the season to New Jersey City University, 6-3, down in Brooklyn on Saturday. On Sunday, the Green and Gold went to Union, NJ to face Kean University. The matchup resulted in a second loss, this time with a final score of 12-2. Brockport is 0-2 early on in 2024, with a chance to bounce back in a big way this upcoming weekend.

At the Plate: Freshman Steven Ciancio III was successful in both of his plate appearances so far. Stepping to the plate once in each game, he is currently 2-for-2 with two doubles and one run scored. Logan Wing is the only other Golden Eagle with more than one hit from opening weekend. Wing is 2-for-4 at the dish, as all four at-bats came in the game against Kean.

Runs Coming Home: Three different Brockport batters registered RBIs last weekend on the road. Josh Indek, Brian Tietjen, and James Simoncelli all have one RBI to their name. Simoncelli joins Ciancio, Frank Vanzillotta, David Belsito, and Tim McClare with runs scored.

Pitching Staff: Colin Pytlak (0-1) and Matt McGowan (0-1) each have started one game on the mound for Brockport. Pytlak struck out five batters in 3.2 innings of work against New Jersey City, allowing five earned runs. McGowan had two strikeouts in 3.2 innings as well against Kean, giving up five earned runs. Troy Leibert threw 3.1 innings as a reliever against NJCU, allowing just one run to score during his shift. Leibert currently owns a 2.70 ERA following his appearance on opening weekend.

Looking Ahead: Following Brockport's trip down south this weekend, the team will head back up to western New York for next week's game. The Golden Eagles will face RIT on the road for a 3pm start time on Tuesday, March 5th.
