Baseball Looks Ahead to SUNYAC Set Against New Paltz

Brockport, NY - The Brockport baseball team will host New Paltz for a three-game set, beginning with the Parkinson's Awareness Game Honoring Carmen J. Lapine on Friday, April 19th at 3 p.m. The Golden Eagles will help celebrate Dumaw Day with a doubleheader on Saturday, with game one scheduled for noon, and game two scheduled for 3 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles dropped Tuesday's non-conference matchup against Rochester, 7-3. Brockport dropped to 15-10 on the season following the loss.

Matt Mayer went 1 for 3 at the plate, driving in two runs for the Green and Gold.

David Belsito reached base safely twice, going 1 for 3 with a walk. 

Bryce Tyndell pitched 2.0 innings, striking out one batter and letting up one walk across five at-bats.

Brendan Pajak pitched 1.0 inning letting up one hit and striking out one batter across four plate appearances.

Anthony Lapine pitched 1.0 inning letting up one hit across three at-bats. 

Nick Deising finished out the game for the Green and Gold pitching one inning, and walking two batters. 
 
Parkinson's Awareness Game: Before the start of game 1, the Brockport Golden Eagles will recognize Carmen J. Lapine, brother of Brockport pitcher Anthony Lapine, who suffered from Parkinson's Disease and passed away on December 4th, 2023. The Golden Eagles will honor Carmen by wearing grey Parkinson's shirts to support the fight against Parkinson's Disease.   T-shirts will be for sale at the entrance and donations are being accepted and will go towards Parkinson's research. 
 
Heating Up: Leading the Golden Eagles in AVG (.403), OPS (1.089), and SLG% (.653), Cole Traudt has given the Brockport offense a much-needed boost. Amid a 7-game-hitting streak, Traudt has gone 13 for 29 (0.448) with 5 doubles, 6 runs, and 3 RBIs. The sophomore has recorded a hit or better in 11 of his last 12 games, with 9 multi-hit outings on the season.
 
Limiting the Opposition: The Brockport pitching staff has been excellent thus far when it comes to limiting scoring opportunities for the opposition. The Golden Eagles rank as the SUNYAC's best in earned run average (4.36), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.71, 11th nationally), and strikeouts per nine innings (9.9, 10th nationally).
 
Scouting New Paltz: The Hawks will enter Friday will a 17-10 overall record and a 5-4 record in SUNYAC play, currently 1 game ahead of Brockport in the SUNYAC standings. Junior Tommy Kreider has been on a tear for the Hawks, posting an absurd .511/.614/.745 slash line with 20 RBIs and 70 total bases. The Hawks will enter the series searching for their first win over Brockport since 2019.
 
Up Next: Brockport will host St. John Fishers on Tuesday, April 23rd at 4 p.m.
