Baseball Looks Ahead to Busy Week of Action

Brockport, NY- The Brockport baseball team will host Russell Sage in non-conference play on Wednesday, April 10th at 3:30 p.m. before heading to Oswego for a 3-game set beginning on Friday, April 12th at 3 p.m. Games 2 and 3 against Oswego will take place at noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13th.
 
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles suffered a three-game sweep in Cortland last weekend, falling 5-4 on Saturday before dropping Sunday's doubleheader, 5-3 and 3-1. The Golden Eagles fell to 13-7 on the season with a 3-3 mark in SUNYAC play.
 
Game 1:
 
Nick Mahar was excellent at the plate, going 3 for 4 on the day with a solo home run and 2 runs scored.
 
Steven Ciancio III picked up 3 hits of his own, coming around to score twice.
 
Josh Indek reached base safely twice, adding two RBIs.
 
Ryan Peters provided a solid outing, pitching 5 innings of two-run baseball with 4 strikeouts.
 
Game 2:
 
Jason Mansell and Nick Mahar went 3 for 4 at the plate, both scoring a run each in the contest.
 
TJ Strevell picked up two hits including a solo homer in the top of the 9th.
 
Matt McGowan (L, 2-2) was strong in defeat, going 6.2 innings with 5 punchouts and 3 runs allowed.
 
Game 3:
 
Brian Tietjen slugged a solo home run in the 8th for the Golden Eagles' lone run of the contest.
 
Troy Leibert tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2 Red Dragons.
 
Hot Streak: Recording a hit or better across his last 4 starts, Nick Mahar has emerged as one of Brockport's biggest threats at the plate. Dating back to March 15th against Mitchell, Mahar has posted a hit or better in 10 of his last 12 games played, good for a .485 batting average over that stretch.
 
Conference Leaders: The Golden Eagles' pitching staff has led Brockport to multiple conference bests in multiple pitching statistics. The Green and Gold currently lead the conference in ERA (3.97), strikeouts per nine innings (9.5), and strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.81, 10th nationally).
 
Scouting Russell Sage: The Gators currently sit at 11-10 on the season, posting a record of 4-1 across conference play. Brendan Espinal has been excellent at the plat for Russell Sage, currently holding a .473/.556/.770 slash line with 3 homers and 23 RBIs. The Golden Eagles will look to extend its winning streak over the Gators to 3 games on Wednesday.
 
Scouting Oswego: The Lakers are in the midst of a 3-game winning streak, holding a 9-8 record with a 2-1 mark in SUNYAC play. Oswego will host a doubleheader against St. John Fisher before the 3-game set against Brockport. The head-to-head series has been highly competitive, with both schools splitting the last 10 matchups dating to 2021.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will play host to Rochester on Wednesday, April 17th at 4 p.m.
