Brockport, NY- The Brockport women's basketball team will head to Utica for its Empire 8 opener on Tuesday, January 7
th, at 5:30 p.m.
Last Outing: The squad finished 2024 on a high note, defeating William Smith College 99-53 in Daytona Beach, FL on Tuesday, December 17
th. The Golden Eagles improved to 7-2 following the win.
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led the scoring charge for Brockport, dropping a team-high 17 points in just 18 minutes.
Freshman
Peyton Maneri had the best outing of her collegiate career in the win. She set career-highs across the board with 17 points, nine assists, and seven steals.
Kaileigh Hunt notched her first double-double of the season, going for 16 points and 10 boards. Hunt was also efficient, going 4-for-8 from the field, 1-for-2 from deep, and a perfect 7-for-7 at the foul line.
Cam Tooley rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Green and Gold. She scored 10 points to go with six boards and five assists. Following the efficiency trend, she went 3-for-5 from the floor, 1-for-2 from long range, and 3-for-3 at the stripe.
Clean Sweep: For their excellent performances in Florida,
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste and
Peyton Maneri would each earn Empire 8 weekly awards. For the third time this season, Jean-Baptiste would earn E8 Player of the Week honors. Across two games, SJB averaged 24.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game on 54.3% shooting. Maneri would earn her second Rookie of the Week honor, filling up the stat sheet with 17 points, seven steals, and a career-high nine assists in an all-around effort.
Scoring Streak: Leading the squad with an E8 3
rd best 20.2 ppg,
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste is in the midst of an impressive scoring run. SJB has recorded 12+ points in all nine contests for Brockport, in addition to posting double-figure scoring in 18 of her last 19 outings dating back to last year.
Scouting Utica: The Pioneers currently sit at 2-7 overall and are in the midst of a three-game losing streak, most recently falling to Cortland last Thursday. Tuesday's matchup will mark the first between Brockport and Utica as members of the Empire 8.
