Box Score BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Women's Basketball team fell in their season opener in Erie, PA, against Penn State Behrend,83-76, on Saturday, November 8th.
Mandy Brink started the season strong, scoring a team high 20 points with 11 rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Brink set new career highs in points, rebounds, and steals.
Ava Howie had an effective debut for the Golden Eagles, scoring 10 points (4-5 FG) with three assists IN 18 minutes off the bench.
The first quarter proved to be a back-and-forth affair, seeing the Lions take a 20-18 lead into the second quarter. PSU Behrend would jump out to a 17-8 lead, but Brockport's 10-3 run to end the quarter would keep the contest tight.
The second quarter would mirror the opening frame, with PSU Behrend outscoring Brockport 20-18 in the quarter to take a 40-36 lead into the halftime break. Brockport would finish the first half shooting 40% from beyond the arc (4-10).Â
Penn State Behrend would take a slight edge in each of the first three quarters, outscoring Brockport by four in the third quarter. Despite trailing by 14 points in the quarter, back-to-back three pointers from
Ava Howie would help cut into the Lions' lead.  Â
The Golden Eagles would threaten in the final frame, holding a 22-21 scoring edge in the quarter. Despite five straight
Mandy Brink points to cut the lead to five, the Lions would control the final 7:54 of the contest to secure the win.Â
Brockport displayed strong shooting from beyond the arc, making nine three-pointers on the afternoon (9-21).
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste (15 points, 2 steals)Â and
Peyton Maneri (13 points, 3 steals) each reached double figures for the Golden Eagles.
