Zach Eldred was named the Empire 8 Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the third time this season following another excellent two-way week as the #17 Golden Eagles went 4-0 at home against St. John Fisher and SUNY Poly. Eldred went 10-for-18 at the plate, smacking a home run in each of Brockport's four outings, adding 12 RBIs and seven runs scored. On the mound against Fisher, Eldred tossed seven scoreless innings with six punchouts, allowing just three hits.
In game two against SUNY Poly, he went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, three runs, and an home run as the Golden Eagles defeated Poly, 11-2. In game three against SUNY Poly, he went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and another home run as the Golden Eagles won 6-3. On Sunday, he capped the weekend going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI as Brockport defeated Poly, 9-5.
Extending his program record hit streak to 28 games, Eldred has emerged as one of the top players in the country. His .490 batting average (5
th in D3), 12 home runs (3
rd in D3), 48 RBIs (6
th in D3), and .969 slugging (4
th in D3) lead the Empire 8 conference, with Eldred leading the nation with 0.5 home runs per game.
#17 Brockport is now 22-2-1 overall with a perfect 11-0 mark in Empire 8 play. The Golden Eagles will host Houghton in doubleheader action on Tuesday, April 15
th at 1 pm.
