Brockport, NY—The #25-ranked Brockport baseball team will host Elmira for a three-game set, beginning with a home opener doubleheader on Friday, April 3rd at 12:45 pm.
Last Time Out; The Golden Eagles rolled to a 10-2 win at Houghton on Tuesday, April 1
st. Brockport improved to 15-2-1 overall with a perfect 4-0 record in Empire 8 play.
Zach Eldred (W, 4-0) led Brockport with a terrific two-way day, tossing seven innings of one-run baseball with eight strikeouts. Eldred smashed two homers at the plate, going two for four with three RBIs and three runs scored.
James Dixon (2-2, 3RBI) and
Kyle Blake (2-4, 2B) provided two hits each to power the middle of the Brockport order.
Troy Leibert (1.0IP, 1K) and
Thomas DiGirolomo (1.0IP, 1K) preserved the win for Brockport, not allowing a baserunner between the eighth and ninth innings.
Top of his Class: Following another remarkable two-way performance,
Zach Eldred has continued to prove his case as one of the top players in the country. Amid a record-breaking hit streak, Eldred ranks among the best in the nation in home runs (9, 10
th in D3), RBIs per game (1.94, 4
th), and slugging percentage (.918, 4
th).
Lotta Runs: Building off a strong junior season, Frank Vanzillota has been excellent as Brockport's primary leadoff man. In just 18 games, Vanzillota has already surpassed his 2024 totals in runs (32) and walks (25), leading the nation with 1.39 walks per game. Vanzillotta's 1.78 runs per game is good for the second-most in Division 3.
Scouting Elmira: The Soaring Eagles have jumped out an 8-14 start, most recently defeating Keuka 14-4, splitting the doubleheader against the Wolves. Brockport and Elmira have not met since 2019, which saw Brockport cruise to a 12-3 win. The Golden Eagles will look to win their fourth straight home opener.
