SUNY Brockport Welcomes Suzanna Sylcox ‘18 and Zach Dunbar ‘18 to Athletic Training Staff

The SUNY Brockport department of athletics is pleased to welcome two outstanding professionals—Suzanna Sylcox and Zach Dunbar—to its athletic training staff. With deep ties to the university and diverse experience across athletic levels and settings, both Sylcox and Dunbar will be integral in continuing the department's commitment to providing top-tier care for student-athletes.

"With the continued growth of our roster of varsity sports and rising participation numbers, it's vital that we continue to invest in high-quality support for our student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Dr. Erick Hart. "The addition of Suzanna and Zach ensures we are providing the level of care our athletes deserve. We're thrilled to have them on board. They will be excellent additions to the athletic training clinic and the campus community."

Suzanna Sylcox
A proud Brockport alumna, Sylcox returns to campus after several successful years serving the high school and collegiate communities in Ohio. Most recently, she worked as an Outreach Athletic Trainer with OhioHealth Sports Medicine, where she provided comprehensive care to more than 500 student-athletes at Athens High School. In this role, she was responsible for injury prevention and treatment, inventory, and budget management, EMR documentation, and coordination with parents, coaches, and physicians.

"I am excited to join the Brockport Athletic Training Staff and help educate future athletic training professionals!" said Sylcox. "I am thankful for the opportunity to give back to the program that has helped me become the athletic trainer I am today!"

Sylcox earned her Master of Science in Athletic Training from Ohio University in 2020 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from SUNY Brockport. She is a certified CPR/AED instructor, Graston Technique certified, and has served as a preceptor for athletic training students. She also volunteered as an Independent Medical Observer for MAC football games and spearheaded a donation drive to improve medical resources for underserved schools.

At Brockport, Sylcox will assist Lee Cohen in his final season as Head Football Athletic Trainer before taking over the role. She will also cover cross country, women's tennis, indoor track & field, swimming & diving, and baseball.

Zach Dunbar
Dunbar, also a graduate of SUNY Brockport, brings extensive experience at the collegiate, youth, and industrial levels. He joins Brockport after serving as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Nazareth University, where he covered women's ice hockey, tennis, track and field, and women's rowing. His prior positions include work at Stevenson University, PT Solutions Physical Therapy with Florida Premier FC, and as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Florida, where he worked at PK Yonge and Hawthorne High School.

"I am thrilled to join this incredible athletic training staff here at SUNY Brockport. As an alum, it is both an honor and a privilege to put on the green and gold again. It's always been a career goal of mine to come back to Brockport and give back to the program where it all started for me," said Dunbar.  "I'm excited for this opportunity to continue to grow and work side by side with some of the profession's best. Thank you to Erick Hart and the rest of the selection committee for choosing me for this role, I'm looking forward to providing high quality care and support to all of Brockport's student athletes!"

Dunbar recently completed a stint as an Injury Prevention Specialist with Work Right NW, providing athletic training care to industrial athletes at John Deere in Iowa. His expertise includes advanced modalities such as blood flow restriction, cupping, IASTM, concussion baseline testing, and ergonomic assessments. He has also contributed to medical coverage for numerous NCAA and conference championship events across the country.

Dunbar earned his Master of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology (Athletic Training concentration) from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from SUNY Brockport.

At Brockport, Dunbar will provide athletic training services for volleyball, gymnastics, women's lacrosse, and the newly launched women's flag football program.
