Aybar Named Rookie of the Year; Oka and Dyer Earn All-Conference Honors

BROCKPORT, NY – On Thursday, February 26th, the Empire 8 Conference announced its 2025-26 Men's Basketball All-Conference selections, and the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles were well-represented. Leading the charge for the Green and Gold is freshman standout Pharell Aybar, who was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, while veterans Jacob Oka and Camron Dyer also secured All-Conference honors.

The announcement comes at a fever pitch for the program, as the Golden Eagles are currently riding a nine-game winning streak. Following a thrilling win against No. 8 St. John Fisher in the Empire 8 Semifinals last night, Brockport (16-11, 10-6 E8) has punched its ticket to the Empire 8 Championship Final for the first time since joining the conference for the 2024-25 season.

Second Team All-Conference: Jacob Oka

Senior guard Jacob Oka has been the heartbeat of the Golden Eagles in his final season. The Baldwin, NY native leads the roster in three major categories: points (13.0 PPG), rebounds (6.2 RPG), and steals (2.0 SPG). Oka's efficiency has been a model of consistency, shooting 46.2% from the floor while ranking 4th in the Empire 8 for steals during conference matchups.

Rookie of the Year & Third Team All-Conference: Pharell Aybar

Pharell Aybar's debut season has been nothing short of historic. The Washington Heights, NY native became one of the most decorated freshmen in program history, racking up a record six Empire 8 Rookie of the Week selections.

Aybar leads the team in playmaking with 3.2 assists per game (5th in the E8) and is averaging 11.4 points on 46% shooting. His defensive tenacity is equally impressive, ranking within the conference top 10 with 1.6 steals per game. The freshman's season highlight came in February against St. John Fisher, where he exploded for a career-high 29 points on 12 made field goals, serving as the sixth-highest made field goal total in conference play this year.

Third Team All-Conference: Camron Dyer

Junior Camron Dyer has proven to be the ultimate "do-it-all" threat for Brockport. Averaging 13.0 points and 5.1 rebounds, Dyer ranks second on the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists (2.2 APG). His defensive presence is felt in the paint and on the perimeter, as he leads the team with 0.8 blocks per game and ranks inside the top 10 in the Empire 8 in steals (1.6 SPG).

Empire 8 Tomorrow's Leaders Team: Cameron Pownall

Freshman forward Cameron Pownall was recognized for his leadership and efficiency, earning a spot on the Empire 8 Tomorrow's Leaders Team. Pownall has been one of the team's most efficient finishers, posting a team-high 60.9% field goal percentage. In addition to averaging 4.7 PPG and 2.3 RPG, Pownall has been a defensive anchor in the paint. He is tied for the second-most blocks on the squad (0.8 BPG), and during Empire 8 conference play, he elevated his game to rank 8th in the conference with 1.1 blocks per game.

The Golden Eagles enter the title game with a surge of momentum, having secured nine consecutive victories to reach the conference pinnacle. SUNY Brockport is set to host No. 7 Keuka College for the Empire 8 Championship on Saturday, February 28th, at 2:00 p.m. The Golden Eagles aim to capitalize on their home-court energy to claim the conference title and punch their ticket to the NCAA Championship Tournament.
