BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Baseball team will travel to Virginia Beach, VA, for weekend action, taking on Alfred State (11 am) and Virginia Wesleyan (2 pm) on Saturday, February 28th. The Golden Eagles will close the weekend against Alfred State on Sunday, March 1st, at 11 am.
Last Weekend: Despite coming up short in Canton, OH, against Adrian College and Mount Union, the Brockport offense started the season strong, scoring 29 runs across three outings.
Cole Grazioplene provided an excellent opening weekend, going 5-for-12 at the plate with four runs scored and a triple, posting an impressive .417/.500/.583 slash line.
Junior transfer
Evan Brock made his power felt over the weekend, smashing two homers with five runs scored and four RBI's.
Matthew Coon was strong at the plate across two starts for Brockport, driving in three runs, scoring twice, and holding a solid .375/.375/.500 slash line.
AOTW: Making a strong first impression last weekend in Ohio,
Michael Norton was named Empire 8 Athlete of the Week following an excellent Brockport debut. The graduate transfer racked up seven RBI's, four hits (2 XBH), three runs scored, and a home run in three starts for the Green and Gold. Boasting a strong .333/.308/.667 slash line with an impressive .975 OPS on the weekend, his best outings came against RV Adrian and RV Mount Union on Friday. Against Adrian on Friday, Norton picked up the start at DH, finishing two-for-five with three RBI's and a solo home run in the 15-9 loss. In a slug fest against Mount Union on Friday afternoon, Norton would drive in four more runs for the DH spot, smacking a double and scoring twice in the contest.
Scouting Alfred State: The Pioneers will enter the weekend searching for their first victory, holding a 0-8 record after suffering a four-game sweep against Roanoke College last weekend. Saturday will mark the first meeting between Brockport and Alfred State since the 2020 season, seeing Brockport score a 12-8 win from Ferrum, Va.
Scouting Virginia Wesleyan: The Marlins have played to a 5-3 start, most recently defeating Regent University on Wednesday, 12-6. The Golden Eagles and the Marlins will meet for the first time since 2018, with the two programs splitting the last two head-to-head matchups.
