BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Baseball team (5-13, 3-0 E8) will head to the University of Rochester (8-5, 1-2 LL) for non-conference action on Tuesday, March 24th at 4 pm.
Last Outing: Brockport closed out action from the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with an 8-1 win over Keuka on Saturday, March 21st. The win secured a three-game sweep of the Wolves.
Charles Searle (W, 2-0) provided his best outing to date, tossing five innings of one-run baseball with a career-high five strikeouts.
Bryce Tyndell was strong out of the bullpen for Brockport, going two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Blake Fortunato (2 RBI, 3B) and
Michael Norton each provided multi-hit performances for Brockport, each coming across to score.
ROTW (X2); For the second time this season,
Blake Fortunato was named Empire 8 Rookie of the Week following an excellent run of play from Florida. On the week, Fortunato finished with a .333 batting average with eight RBI's, four runs scored, and two extra base hits, coming from a triple and a home run. The freshman has made an immediate impact for the Golden Eagles, leading the squad in nearly every statistical category to begin the season.
Finding a Groove: Following difficult starts to the season, pitchers
Tyler Pohlman and
Bryce Tyndell have bounced back in a big way. In a pair of starts from Florida, Pohlman was on point, allowing just two runs in each of his starts, with the junior picking up the win following a 7.2 inning outing with five strikeouts. Tydell held his opposition scoreless across six innings of work in Florida, collecting six strikeouts. His four strikeout outing against Keuka last Friday serves as a new career-high.
Scouting Rochester: The Yellowjackets hold an 8-5 record and are coming off a 9-4 loss to Ithaca in conference play. Brockport and Rochester have met five times since 2022, with Brockport winning four of the last five head-to-head meetings.
