BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Baseball team will travel to Massachusetts to take on UMass Boston in doubleheader action from Monan Park on Saturday, March 7th, with first pitch scheduled for 12 pm. The Golden Eagles will take on UMass Dartmouth from Monan Park in Boston on Sunday, March 8th, with the DH scheduled to begin at 11 am.
Last Outing: The Golden Eagles finished off their Virginia Beach trip with an 11-5 victory over Alfred State last Sunday. The win marked the first as head coach for
Nick Pontari, with Brockport improving to 5-1 on the season.
Michael Norton would continue his excellent start to the season. Norton would launch his third home run of the season to put Brockport ahead 1-0 early.
Connor Villano (W, 1-0) earned his first win as a Golden Eagle, tossing two hitless frames with three strikeouts.
Kyle Blake led the Golden Eagles with three hits, going three-for-five with two RBI's and a run scored.
Matthew Coon,
Josh Indek, and
Cole Grazioplene all reached base safely three times, with Indek and Coon each driving in two runs.
ROTW: The Empire 8 Conference announced
Blake Fortunato as the Baseball Rookie of the Week. The freshman shortstop from Deposit, NY, earned his first weekly honor following a strong performance in Virginia Beach. Leading the squad with a .385 batting average and .467 OBP, Fortunato finished 4-of-8 at the plate with three runs scored over the weekend, providing high-end defense as well.
Scouting UMass Boston: The Beacons are coming off a strong 25-17 2025 season, beginning the season with an 8-7 loss to Mitchell College on Thursday. Brockport will look to snap a two-game slide in the head-to-head series.
Scouting UMass Dartmouth: The Corsairs have jumped out to a 0-6 start, falling to PSU Harrisburg, 18-12, last Sunday. Sunday's doubleheader will mark the first head-to-head meeting since the 1987 season.
