Brockport, NY – On Monday, March 9th, the USTFCCCA & Empire 8 Conference announced
Gabriel Giannini as this week's Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week following a dominating weekend at the heptathlon championship.
Giannini highlighted the weekend for Brockport, claiming the men's heptathlon title with a score of 5,126 points. The junior currently holds the Brockport school record and ranks second in the nation heading into the final weekend of the indoor season.
Over the two-day competition, Giannini delivered a dominant all-around performance to secure the weekly accolade. He placed first in three of the seven events, including the 60-meter dash (7.09), the long jump (7.19m), and the pole vault (4.70m). He added a third-place finish in the shot put (11.65m) and a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.78m). Giannini rounded out his championship performance, taking sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.07) and seventh in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:59.22.
After qualifying for nationals, Giannini will join
Dennis Bobbitt and
Timothy Smith to represent Brockport for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in Birmingham, AL. Competition is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 13th, and Saturday, March 14th.
