Three SUNY Brockport student-athletes have qualified for a combined five events at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
Timothy Smith (800 meters),
Dennis Bobbitt (long jump, triple jump), and
Gabriel Giannini (heptathlon, long jump) will represent the Golden Eagles at this year's indoor national championships.
Sophomore
Dennis Bobbitt has qualified for nationals in both the long jump and triple jump. He currently ranks sixth nationally and second in the Brockport record book with a mark of 7.38 meters in the long jump. Bobbitt also sits 12th nationally in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 14.86 meters.
Bobbitt adds his first national qualification to an impressive indoor season that includes being named Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Year after sweeping both the long jump and triple jump at the conference championships two weekends ago. The men's long jump finals will take place Friday at 12:30 p.m., while the men's triple jump finals are scheduled for Saturday at 12 p.m.
Senior Gabe Giannini returns to nationals after qualifying in both the heptathlon and long jump. Giannini currently ranks second nationally in the heptathlon with a school-record score of 5,126 points, and he is also ranked ninth nationally in the long jump with a distance of 7.33 meters.
Giannini is coming off a record-setting performance at the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championships, where he captured first place in the heptathlon with his school-record score of 5,126 points. He is making his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships, after competing in the long jump at last year's national meet.
The men's heptathlon begins Friday at 11 a.m. with the 60-meter dash. Friday's schedule continues with the long jump (11:40 a.m.), shot put (1:30 p.m.), and high jump (4 p.m.). The competition resumes Saturday at 11 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles, followed by the pole vault (11:50 a.m.), and concludes with the 1,000-meter run at 3 p.m.
Sophomore Tim Smith has qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 800 meters and currently ranks ninth nationally with a school-record time of 1:51.12. Smith will compete in the preliminary round of the 800 meters on Friday at 5 p.m.
Smith will be making his first career appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships and enters the meet with momentum after placing second in the 800-meter final at the Empire 8 Conference Championships.
