Brockport, NY — The Brockport women's tennis team continued its strong start to the 2026 season on Friday afternoon, earning a 6-1 victory over Houghton University in its Empire 8 opener.
The Golden Eagles opened the match with a clean sweep in doubles play, winning all three matches to take an early 1-0 lead.
Cara Vasile and
Leah Banes earned the victory at No. 1 doubles, while
Mackenzie King and
Samantha Basovsky secured the win at No. 2.
Gianna Masker and
Kathleen Rogers completed the doubles sweep at No. 3.
Brockport carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matches to secure the conference victory. The Golden Eagles collected wins at No. 2 through No. 6 singles, with Banes, King, Basovsky, Masker and Rogers each contributing to the team's 6-1 final score.
The victory continues a strong opening stretch for Brockport, which began the season with a 7-0 sweep at Fredonia. The Golden Eagles have now won 13 of their first 14 matches across singles and doubles competition this season.
With the victory, Brockport moves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play to begin the 2026 season.
