Homecoming Victory Over RIT
Brockport improved to 5-3 on the season following a thrilling 3-1 victory (28-26, 24-26, 25-18, 25-19) over RIT during Homecoming Weekend.
The Golden Eagles out-killed the Tigers 39 to 35, spearheaded by outside hitter
Luba Butcher, who posted a team-high 9 kills alongside 3 solo blocks and 6 digs.
Kaylee Dickerson-Holly chipped in 7 kills, while
Ellie Cusmano and
Ana Parella added 6 kills apiece. Parella was vital behind the service line, landing 4 of Brockport's 10 total aces. Setters
Kaitlyn Jewett and
Ava Baty efficiently orchestrated the offense, logging 19 and 12 assists, respectively, with Jewett adding 3 aces.
Defensively, libero
Elsie Logan anchored the back row with a match-high 18 digs, complemented by 9 digs each from
Grace Ippoliti and
Alyssa Guzman. At the net, middle blocker
Maddy Howell led the front-row defense with 1 solo block and 4 block assists.
After dropping a tight second set, Brockport took control in the third frame by hitting a match-high .184. The Golden Eagles sealed the match in the fourth set by forcing RIT into 11 attack errors and holding the Tigers to a -.094 hitting percentage.
Scouting Buffalo State
The Bengals come into Friday's matchup at 3-6 overall after dropping their last two matches to John Carroll (1-3) and Geneseo (1-3) at the Bengal Challenge.
Historically, Brockport has controlled the series, winning 12 of the past 13 meetings against Buffalo State. However, the Bengals claimed the most recent matchup in 2024 with a 3-0 sweep, giving the Green and Gold added motivation to protect their home court.
Scouting Cortland
The host Red Dragons enter Saturday's home opener at 4-5 on the year after dropping three consecutive 0-3 decisions against Otterbein, Calvin, and Colorado College at the Calvin Invitational. Brockport has won 6 of the last 11 meetings against Cortland and will aim for its first head-to-head victory over the Red Dragons since 2023.
Scouting Williams College
Brockport finishes the weekend with a neutral-site clash against Williams College at 2:30 PM. The Ephs sit at 6-3 overall with a 1-1 conference mark in the NESCAC, highlighted by a 3-2 victory over #17 Tufts to open league play before falling 1-3 to Bates. Currently sitting 7th in the NESCAC standings, Williams will face Brockport in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Empire 8 Stat Leaders
As a team, Brockport features one of the most formidable net defenses in the conference, leading the Empire 8 in blocks per set (1.74). The Golden Eagles also rank 4th in kills per set (11.11) and 4th in assists per set (10.07).
Individually, several Golden Eagles sit near the top of the conference leaderboards:
- Kaitlyn Jewett leads the Empire 8 in service aces per set (0.89), accounting for 24 total aces on the season.
- Maddy Howell tops the conference in net defense, ranking 1st in blocks per set (0.94) with 15 total blocks.
- Luba Butcher ranks 4th in blocks per set (0.68, 13 total blocks), while Ana Parella ranks 8th (0.61 blocks per set, 14 total blocks).
- Elsie Logan ranks 2nd in the Empire 8 in digs per set (5.28), totaling 132 digs as the defensive anchor.
