Senior Stephanie Powell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) placed third in the hammer throw and nearly posted another NCAA provisional qualifying effort during Friday's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) outdoor track and field championships, held at Moravian (PA) College. Powell is The College at Brockport’s Female Athlete of the Week.

 

Powell, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) hammer throw champion who has posted several provisional qualifying efforts for the NCAA Division III national championships this outdoor season, recorded an effort of 49.18 meters to place third at the ECAC championships. It was the eighth time in eight outdoor meets that Powell has logged a top-three finish in the hammer throw.

 

The ECAC championships served as a final tune-up for the national championship meet. Powell, who will be seeded 16th out of 23 competitors at nationals, earned a spot at nationals after her 51.40 meter effort in the hammer during the Roberts Wesleyan Raider Open, held April 30.

 

Powell, a two-time SUNYAC hammer throw champion, was named Brockport’s Female Athlete of the Week for the second time this year.

 

This is the final Female Athlete of the Week award for the 2010-11 school year.
