BOXSCORE

The College at Brockport women's soccer team surrendered a late goal to Oneonta in a 1-0 loss to the Red Dragons on Friday afternoon at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. Oneonta's Dana DeSimone hit a shot into the right side of the net with 5:32 left on the clock to give the Red Dragons the victory.

Oneonta (3-5-0, 2-1-0 SUNYAC) was the aggressor right out the gates, as the Red Dragons had a header go off the crossbar in the first couple minutes of the game. They dominated possession for a good portion of the first half, and out-shot the Golden Eagles (5-3-1, 1-2-0 SUNYAC) 10-1 in the stanza.

With 15 minutes remaining in the half, Golden Eagle goalie Erin Asquith (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) made a sliding stop on a shot by Onoenta's Kori Hamm to keep the score knotted at zero. The Brockport defense was able to withstand the Red Dragon attack, and there was a scoreless tie at the half.

Brockport began to create better opportunities in the second half. The best look at goal for the Golden Eagles came 13 minutes into the second half, when sophomore Katie Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) dribbled the ball up the right side and took a shot from about 12 yards out that sailed just high.

Five minutes later, DeSimone made a run up the left side with the ball and sent a cross to the top of the box. Oneonta's Elise Moinzadeh collected the ball, took a touch to the outside and fired a shot that hit the inside of the right post. The ball drifted across the goal line behind Asquith before being cleared.

DeSimone scored the game's only goal when she received a pass from the right wing by Alaina Greco. DeSimone one-timed a shot past Asquith into the right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

The Red Dragons took 16 shots in the contest, compared to just four for the Golden Eagles. Asquith finished the game with four saves in goal. Oneonta goalkeeper Amy Lusby registered one save in the shutout.

“Our defense showed hard work and heart today,” head coach Joan Schockow said. “They willed the ball out of the net on a lot of close chances, but we couldn't squeak out the win.”

The Golden Eagles will be back on A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm, as they face conference foe New Paltz.
