Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) provided the late-game heroics for The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team, scoring the game-winner with 38 seconds to play in the game as the Golden Eagles defeated Cortland 3-2 Friday night. The game-winning goal is the fifth of the year for Gillette as Brockport handed Cortland its first conference loss of the year.
Gillette, leading the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) with 13 goals on the year, provided her second consecutive conference game-winning goal. With the game heading for overtime, Gillette split two Cortland defenders and positioned herself for a shot on net. The junior fired a shot to the upper left corner to send Brockport to victory. Gillette leads Brockport with 31 points on the year, 13 coming against SUNYAC opponents.
The Golden Eagles had dropped four straight games against the Red Dragons before the victory on Friday, dating back to the 2009 season. The Red Dragons outshot Brockport 13-5 on the day. Cortland limited the Golden Eagles to just two shots in the second half, but both shots resulted in goals.

Hannah Conine (Conesus, NY/Livonia) entered the game to start the second half and made three saves, including two in the closing minutes of the match. The junior continued her unbeaten streak this season, improving her overall record to 6-0-1.
The game started off with two quick goals, one from each side. Cortland struck first with a goal at the 4:40 mark, but less than two minutes later freshman
Courtney Szczesniak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) tied the game after putting a shot just inside the left post. Gillette was credited with her fifth assist of the year on the play.
The Red Dragons regained the lead in the 27th minute and carried the 2-1 advantage into halftime. First-year player
Annie Terilli (Brockport, NY/Brockport) evened up the score just 1:13 into the second half. The junior found the back of the net with her head on a cross from
Sarah Lawson (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East). Lawson leads the Golden Eagles with seven assists on the year.
The Golden Eagles are now tied for third place in the SUNYAC with New Paltz at 4-1-1. Cortland remains in first with a 5-1-1 record while Oneonta is second at 5-1-0. The Golden Eagles have three conference games remaining, all against teams with a losing conference record.
Brockport travels to Oswego tomorrow afternoon for a 1:00 pm game. The Golden Eagles will host its final two opponents of the regular season, Potsdam and Plattsburgh, on the weekend of Oct. 19-20.
