The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team used another big first half to pull away from its opponent as the Golden Eagles took down Potsdam 4-0 Friday afternoon at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. Brockport improved its chances of earning a first round bye in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) playoffs with the victory, upping its conference record to 6-1-1 on the year.

All four Brockport goals came in the first half, including the final score coming in the last second of play in the first half. With the clock winding down, Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) found Maria Malone (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) at the top of the box who fired a perfectly placed shot into the back of the net just before the buzzer sounded. Gillette finished with five points on the day, scoring two goals to go along with the assist.

The Golden Eagles have dominated their opponents in the first half all season. Brockport is outscoring its counterparts in the first 45 minutes by a score of 33-6. Overall, Brockport has only allowed 13 goals on the year while scoring a conference-leading 55 goals. The next closest opponent, Cortland, has scored 33 goals on the year. The Golden Eagles are tied for first in the SUNYAC with the 13 goals allowed.

Annie Terilli (Brockport, NY/Brockport) opened up the scoring for Brockport in the 14th minute of play. Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) found her way to the end-line and played a pass back to Terilli for her fourth goal of the year.

Gillette scored her league-leading 15th goal of the year in the 32nd minute after fighting for possession inside the Potsdam box and burying the close-range shot. The junior scored just over two minutes later on an assist from Katie Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville). Gildemeyer played a pass down the right sideline and Gillette beat one defender and fired a shot from the far right side of the field, just outside the Potsdam box, and over the keeper's head for her second tally of the game.

Gillette leads both the team and SUNYAC in goals and points this season. Gillette's 37 points this year alone ranks her 20th on the all-time career scoring list at Brockport. She is just two goals away from tying the school record for most goals in a season and seven points away from tying the record for most points in a season.

Brockport has now won 16 consecutive matches against Potsdam dating back to 1998 and are unbeaten against the Bears in its last 19 matchups. The Golden Eagles are 18-1-1 all-time against Potsdam.

Oneonta helped Brockport's first-round bye chances with a loss against Fredonia Friday, which puts Brockport in the top spot heading into the final day of SUNYAC action. With a tie against Plattsburgh on Saturday, the Golden Eagles would earn a first-round bye. A win against the Cardinals would guarantee an outright regular season SUNYAC Championship. Brockport can finish no worse than third in the final conference standings.

The Golden Eagles will take on the Cardinals tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.
