Box Score

An early second half goal from the Cortland Red Dragons knocked The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team out of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles fell to Cortland 1-0. The Red Dragons advance to play Oneonta in the SUNYAC Championship.

Both teams played a scoreless first half in frigid temperatures until the Red Dragons found the back of the net just 2:54 into the second half. The Golden Eagles had opportunities late in the half as Cortland played with just 10 players for the final four minutes of the game after a red card ejection. Brockport failed to net the equalizer, dropping the team's record to 14-2-2 overall on the year.

Entering the tournament as the No. 1 seed, Brockport controlled the momentum of the game early, keeping the ball in the offensive zone for the first eight minutes of the game. The Golden Eagles failed to put a shot on net in the first 45 minutes of the game. Keeper Hannah Conine (Conesus, NY/Livonia) made four stops in the first half for Brockport and finished the game with eight saves.

Cortland, the No. 4 seed, struck early in the second half to take the lead.  The Red Dragons controlled the first two minutes of the half until Amanda Margolis received a cross into the box and chipped a shot from 15 yards out for the eventual game-winner.

Rain and hail began to fall towards the end of the match as Brockport fought to tie the game. Gina Laing (Holland, NY/Holland) had a shot go wide in the final minutes as the Golden Eagles were eliminated from the tournament.

Brockport will now wait to see if it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Cortland will take on Oneonta at 1:00 pm tomorrow for the conference title. Oneonta defeated Fredonia 3-1 Friday afternoon.
