Sophomore Jaime Snyder (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison) recorded 10 kills and added five digs for The College at Brockport Volleyball team Wednesday night at Cortland but the Red Dragons, ranked No. 9 in the latest national poll, scored a 3-0 victory in a non-conference match in Corey Gymnasium in Cortland.
Cortland (9-0) won the match by game scores of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-14.
The red Dragons got off to a fast start in the first game leading 14-4 in the early part of the match and maintained the double-digit lead for the remainder of the first game. Cortland started strong in game two as well leading 6-1 and held a 20-11 advantage before closing out the game.
In game three, Brockport (4-6) scored the first point of the game and trailed 6-4 in the early portion of the game. With Cortland leading 14-8, the Golden Eagles scored a big point after a long rally with junior Hannalee Fordyce (Amityville, NY/Copiaque) recording several big hits in the rally. Cortland recovered to score six of the next seven points to take a 20-10 lead and after three straight points with sophomore Jessica Senek (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) serving, the Red Dragons rebounded to score five of the final six points to win the game and the match.
Sarah Zelko (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) had 14 assists while Fordyce finished with seven digs and four kills for Brockport.
Brockport returns to action over the weekend at the Union College Invitational in Schenectady, NY. The Golden Eagles will face Union, Hartwick, Skidmore and Sage Colleges in the tournament that starts Friday.
