Box Score

Junior Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) scored three times in the first half to lead The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Fredonia, ranked No. 22 in the latest national poll, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Saturday on A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field in Brockport.

Brockport (7-0-1 Overall, 2-0 SUNYAC) scored five times in the first half including Gillette's first just 1:40 into the game as she dribble past two defenders near the top of the box and fired a shot past the Fredonia (6-2, 1-1) goalie for the early lead.

Less than 11 minutes later, senior Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) used her speed to race past a Fredonia defender and then passed the ball back in front of the goal where freshman Courtney Szczesniak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored for the 2-0 Brockport lead.

In the 26th minute, Gillette took a short through pass from Maguire and split the Fredonia defenders sliding a shot past the Blue Devil keeper for the 3-0 Brockport advantage.

Nine minutes after that, junior Katie Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) dribbled into the right side of the box and sent a shot into the side of the goal and less than three minutes later, Gillette capped her hat trick taking a pass from Gildemeyer and after her first shot trickled past the goalie, slipped past the keeper to send the ball into the back of the net for the commanding 5-0 Brockport lead.

Fredonia, who beat top-ranked William Smith last week, scored in the second half with a penalty shot in the 61st minute for the final score.

“It is great to get off to a 2-0 start in conference play,” said head coach Joan Schockow. “Despite the start, we still have seven tough games in the conference left. There is a long way to go starting with the trip to Oneonta and New Paltz next week.”

Sophomore Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor) made eight saves, three of which were diving stops to remain undefeated in the Brockport goal.
