Katie Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) scored her second goal in as many days as The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team tied New Paltz 1-1 Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles are now 7-1-2 overall and 2-1-1 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play. The Hawks are now 8-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference.
The Golden Eagles trailed 1-0 for a majority of the game until Gildemeyer scored her fourth goal of the season at the 65:36 mark to even the score. Gildemeyer took a shot that deflected off a defender and into the back of the net for the goal. The game remained tied after the two overtime periods. The Golden Eagles won the penalty kick session 4-1 for tiebreaking purposes at the end of the year. The final result of the match is an official tie.
Brockport had plenty of opportunities in the two overtime periods as the Golden Eagles outshot New Paltz 7-1 in the extra 20 minutes. Brockport also earned three corner kicks in overtime but failed to score. Overall, the Golden Eagles outshot the Hawks 14-9.
Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) fired a team-high six shots on the day while Gildemeyer put two shots on goal, including the equalizer.
Laura Thompson (Victory, NY/Victor) played the first 52:44 in net for the Golden Eagles, making one save.
Hannah Conine (Conesus, NY/Livonia) relieved Thompson for the remainder of the game and registered two saves.
After a loss to Oneonta on Friday, the Golden Eagles came back ready to play against the Hawks. Head coach
Joan Schockow saw the team's fitness level as a key to the game. "I was proud of the way the team bounced back after yeterday's loss" said Schockow. "Our conditioning level was the main reason we were able to control the overtime period."
Brockport's next game will be a nonconference matchup at Canton on Oct. 2 for a 4:00 pm start. The Golden Eagles remain on the road on Oct. 6 for a SUNYAC contest against Geneseo.
