Junior Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor) made nine saves and freshman Chelsea Stahl (Brockport, NY/Brockport) scored the only goal of the game in the first half to lead The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Plattsburgh Friday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game in Plattsburgh.

Brockport (9-4-1 Overall, 4-3-1 SUNYAC) solidified its position in the SUNYAC standings and with 13 points have clinched a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament. The Golden Eagles are currently in fifth place and could move up to fourth with a win over Potsdam Saturday coupled with a Cortland or Oswego loss Saturday. The third and fourth place teams in the final regular-season standings would host a first round tournament game Saturday, November 2.

Stahl gave Brockport an early lead with her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Stahl deflected a direct kick taken by Annie Terilli (Brockport, NY/Brockport) past the Plattsburgh (4-10-2, 2-5-1) 20 minutes into the contest.

It was the Brockport defense that stepped up for the Golden Eagles as Plattsburgh held a 14-10 advantage in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks for the game but Thompson and the Golden Eagle defense responded with a big play on each Plattsburgh scoring threat.

"It is always a tough game when we come up here to Plattsburgh," said head coach Joan Schockow. "It is always a battle and today was no different. We played a lot of different players and everyone came into the game and stepped up when they needed to for us."

Thompson made nine saves with four in the first half and five in the second half to record her sixth shutout of the season. The nine saves are the second most in a game this year after stopping 11 shots in the 1-0 win over Geneseo earlier in October.

Brockport wraps up the SUNYAC regular season schedule with a 1 pm game Saturday at Potsdam.
