Glen Young Named Defensive Coordinator

Former NFL player and Syracuse University standout joins Brockport staff

Glen Young named Defensive Coordinator at Brockport
After a nation-wide search, The College at Brockport Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the hiring of Glen Young as the new assistant football coach with specific duties as the team's defensive coordinator. The hiring of Young was made official Wednesday.

“We are excited to have a coach with the impressive resume as a professional football player and recently a successful assistant coach on the staff here at Brockport,” said Athletic Director Erick Hart. “The defensive unit at Brockport has been one of the reasons for the success throughout history including the four trips to the NCAA Tournament from 2000-03. I am confident that Glen can continue to build on the recent successes of the unit and help us return to the national spotlight with a strong defense.”

Young was a standout player for the Syracuse Orangemen in the late 1980's and early 1990's as a four-year letterman, team captain and a two-time defensive MVP selection. He earned All-Big East and All-American honors in 1992 and ended his career #9 on the all-time tackles list at the school. After graduation, he was inducted into the Syracuse Walk of Fame and was picked as a member of the All-Millennium Team for Syracuse.

Following Young's college career, he played four years in the National Football League, starting off with the Los Angeles Raiders in 1993. Young moved on to the Buffalo Bills before finding a home in San Diego with the Chargers. Young was a member of the Chargers for three seasons and served as special teams captain. The Chargers reached the playoffs all three seasons, winning the AFC Championship in 1995.

After a brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks, Young took his talents to the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League as a player/coach. Young spent the next seven seasons in the CFL, winning two Grey Cups with the Edmonton Eskimos.

Young then began his career as a full-time coach, taking an assistant coaching position at Hempfield High School in Greensburg, Pennsylvania before enrolling in graduate school at Michigan State University where he served as a graduate assistant coach for the Spartans.

After completion of his Master's Degree in Kinesiology, Young began his collegiate coaching career in June 2008 at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, serving as the team's special teams coordinator, linebackers coach and head strength and conditioning coach. Young helped lead the Tigers to a 41-9 record during his tenure and had the No. 1 overall defense in 2009.

Young and his wife, Gina have two daughters, Brittany and Brianna.
