Box Score Senior Jaime Snyder (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison) had 12 digs for The College at Brockport Volleyball team Friday night in a 3-0 loss to Cortland in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match in Plattsburgh. The match was the first of three conference matches for Brockport on the third and final weekend of SUNYAC Pool Play.
Cortland (11-17 Overall, 4-3 SUNYAC) won by scores of 26-10, 25-16 and 25-6 over Brockport (17-11, 3-4). The loss dropped the Golden Eagles into a three-way tie for the sixth and final playoff position. Brockport, Buffalo State and Oneonta are all tied with records of 3-4. The Golden Eagles will face Potsdam (1-6 and Oneonta Saturday in Plattsburgh.
Brockport opened set one with an early 5-3 lead before Cortland went on a 10-2 run for a 13-7 advantage. After a Brockport time out, the Red Dragons ran off another six points for a commanding 19-7 lead.
In the second set, a pair of early kills by Amanda Riebe (Pleasant Valley, NY/Millbrook) and a block by Emily Flohr (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) gave Brockport a 4-3 edge and the score was tied at 6-6 before Cortland ran off five straight points. The teams traded points down the stretch but Brockport was unable to narrow the gap.
Set number three featured a series of Cortland mini runs as the Red Dragons stretched a 7-2 early lead to 16-5 with three straight 3-1 runs before scoring nine of the final 10 points for the victory.
Kayla Barber (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) led Brockport with five kills,
Noelle Poloncarz (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and
Rachel Fiser (Visalia, CA/Golden West) combined for 17 assists while Snyder led the team with 12 digs.
