Sophomore Faith Welch (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) had a strong effort for The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team as its rally fell short in the first round of the Wendy's College Classic Tournament. The Golden Eagles dropped a back and forth game 81-73 to the top seeded University of Rochester.

Brockport led at the half 36-31 as junior Lisa Yacovoni (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) converted all three of her shots from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles built a 10 point lead at the beginning of the second half utilizing a 13-8 run. Junior Erin Cunningham (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro) gave the Golden Eagles the 10 point lead on a layup with 15:36 remaining in the game.

The Yellow Jackets then scored 11 unanswered points to take the lead. Welch stopped the bleeding for the Golden Eagles, nailing a three-pointer on an assist from freshman Alyssa Rusinko (Fairport, NY/Fairport) to give Brockport its final lead of the game, 52-50.

Rochester followed the three-pointer with a 16-2 run to pull away from Brockport. With less than two minutes remaining in the game sophomore Hannah Rehbaum (Cheektowaga, NY/Sacred Heart) made a three-point shot on an assist from Welch to cut Rochester's lead to five.

Welch led Brockport with four assists to go along with her 13 points and five rebounds. Junior Olivia Suhr (Rochester, NY/Marion) led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 17 points, on 7-for-11 shooting. Rehbaum and Suhr each totaled six rebounds. Junior Marissa Pike (Burdett, NY/Watkins Glen) made 5-of-7 free throws, chipping in 10 points on the game.

Brockport is now scheduled for an 8 pm showdown with William Smith Thursday at the University of Rochester.
