Box Score Sophomore Hannah Rehbaum (Cheektowaga, NY/Sacred Heart) helped lead The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team to a strong start in its 69-53 win against William Smith during the second round of the Wendy's College Classic Tournament hosted at the University of Rochester.
Junior Olivia Suhr (Rochester, NY/Marion) led Brockport to an early 7-2 lead scoring all seven of the Golden Eagles points. Brockport stretched its lead later in the half with back to back three-pointers by Rehbaum and Faith Welch (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) making the score 31-24.The Golden Eagles converted 8-of-9 free throws in the first half, and held a 37-29 lead at the half.
Brockport used a 5-0 run early in the second half for a 46-34 lead when Alyssa Rusinko (Fairport, NY/Fairport) hit a three-pointer on an assist from Suhr. The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 15 points with exactly six minutes remaining when Welch made two free throws in the one and one bonus. The 64-49 score held true for more than three minutes until the Herons made a layup with 2:38 remaining and Brockport concluded the scoring with a free throw from Rusinko for the 69-53 win.
Rehbaum led the Golden Eagles with 20 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the floor and 13 rebounds. Suhr finished the game with 13 points, while Rusinko and Lisa Yacovoni (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) added nine points each. Yacovoni led the Golden Eagles with four assists.
Brockport advances to face RIT in the final round of the Wendy's College Classic on Saturday at 3 pm hosted by Nazareth.
