Olivia Suhr (Rochester, NY/Marion) scored 20 points as The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team fell to Rochester Institute of Technology 67-61 at Nazareth College. Brockport finished sixth in the Wendy's College Classic.
Brockport quickly took an 11-4 lead less than five minutes into the first half. Suhr got the scoring started for the Golden Eagles with an assist from sophomore guard
Faith Welch (Albany, NY/Catholic Central). Junior guard
Erin Cunningham (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro) also contributed three points to the early lead with a jump shot and a free throw.
RIT was quick to come back and tie the game 13-13 but Welch quickly made a layup and a jump shot to take the lead back for Brockport. With six minutes remaining in the first half freshman guard
Alyssa Rusinko (Fairport, NY/Fairport) nailed a shot from behind the arc to give Brockport another seven point lead which was their largest of the game.
The Golden Eagles led 32-28 at the half but the lead was gone just thirteen seconds into the second half as RIT scored two quick layups to tie the game 32-32. Brockport found itself in a nine point deficit after committing four turnovers and struggling to get a shot off.
With less than ten seconds left Rusinko made two free throws to cut RIT's lead down to four but the Tigers made their next two free throws to seal the win. Brockport shot 9-for-11 from the free throw line. The Golden Eagles bench was outscored by RIT's 27-8.
Welch finished second in scoring with 19 points and led the team with six assists. Sophomore guard
Hannah Rehbaum (Cheektowaga, NY/Sacred Heart) led the team with six rebounds. Rusinko shot 3-for-4 from behind the free point line.
