Box Score

Sophomore Amanda Riebe (Pleasant Valley, NY/Millbrook) led The College at Brockport Volleyball team to a SUNYAC win and to its eighth straight victory. Brockport (11-4) defeated Oswego 3-1 in the opening weekend of SUNYAC play.

Brockport won the first back-and-forth game 28-26 before dropping the second 25-22. They then rallied to win the match by winning the next two games 25-22 and 25-22. Brockport proved victorious in their opening match of SUNYAC competition after trading multiple leads with Oswego during all four games.

In the first game, Brockport utilized the serving of freshman Rachel Fiser (Visalia, CA/Golden West) to climb out of an early three point hole and take a 7-5 lead. After trading leads several times the Golden Eagles found themselves tied with the Lakers 26-26. Riebe struck first with a kill and was followed by a kill from junior Hannah Sawicki (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) who was assisted by freshman Noelle Poloncarz (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) to close out the first game.

In the second game, senior Jaime Snyder (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison) helped to give Brockport the advantage with her quality serving. Although the Golden Eagles led 17-13 after Snyder's serving they could not hold on as they lost 25-22 in the second game.

Brockport then scored more than half of its points on kills in the third game. Riebe led the team with five of her overall 16 kills on the match in the third game. Freshman Emily Flohr (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had a great game with two service aces and three kills to help give Brockport the 2-1 lead.

The Golden Eagles finished the match strong as a team with five different women contributing multiple kills. Junior Ashley Capone (Lowville, NY/Lowville) finished the Lakers hopes with a match clinching kill to end the fourth set.

On the match, Brockport was led by Poloncarz with 37 assists, Snyder with 30 digs and Riebe with 16 kills. Junior Kayla Barber (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) led the team in hitting percentage (0.348) when she converted 23 attempts into nine kills with only one error.

The Golden Eagles continue SUNYAC play tomorrow at Oswego and will square off against Geneseo and Fredonia. Remember to keep up to date on all your Golden Eagle news and scores by following Ellsworth on twitter @ellswortheagle.
