Box Score 2 Freshman Noelle Poloncarz (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) handed out 54 assists, chipped in 19 digs and served five aces for The College at Brockport Volleyball team Saturday at the Houghton College Invitational. The Golden Eagles lost both matches on the day, by a score of 3-2 against tournament host Houghton and 3-0 against Wells College.
Brockport dug itself a whole against Houghton in the first match of the day, losing 25-16 and 25-21 in the first two sets. Trailing 0-2, the Golden Eagles fought their way back thanks in large part to the play of Poloncarz. They evened the match winning 25-19 and 25-21 in the third and fourth set, before dropping the fifth and final set 15-8. In this match Poloncarz had 36 assists, 10 digs and four service aces. She also finished with a tremendous hitting percentage of 0.571 with no errors on four kills. Senior Jaime Snyder (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison) had an impressive total of 40 digs in this five set match.
The Golden Eagles didn't fare as well in the next match losing three straight to Wells by a score of 25-18, 25-20 and 26-24. Poloncarz had another strong game finishing with 18 assists and nine digs. Snyder chipped in with 18 digs and three service aces. Sophomore Amanda Riebe (Pleasant Valley, NY/Millbrook) led the team with 11 of her 16 kills on the day.
The Golden Eagles return to action for a 4:30 pm match Friday against Keuka College at The RIT Tournament. Following that match they will face St. John Fisher at 7 pm.
