ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport Women's Volleyball team battled its way through its first loss of the season, falling 3-1 on the road to the University of Rochester Tuesday evening.

Prior to Tuesday's match, Brockport (10-1) had yet to drop a single set on the season and was running high after 10 straight wins to start the year. Rochester matched Brockport's athleticism as the Yellow Jackets were riding a four match win streak of its own as it defeated the Golden Eagles in four sets with the scores 25-23, 16-25, 25-10 and 25-21.

The Golden Eagles and Yellow Jackets came out in the first set swinging, crushing attack after attack at one another. Ashley Capone had the golden touch for Brockport early leading Brockport to an early 4-2 advantage with three kills.

Several Yellow Jacket errors and kills from Hannah Sawicki, Sam Holdredge and Kayla Barber built the Golden Eagles lead to an 11-6 advantage. Rochester went on a 10-4 run, to take the 16-15 lead but Brockport stormed back into control on a kill from Brianna Richardson to tie the set back up. A Yellow Jacket error followed by the Golden Eagles lone service ace of the game from Holdredge rebuilt a Brockport lead.

However the two teams were not finished in this back and forth set as single points were traded until Brockport held a 20-18 advantage. Rochester used a four point swing to seemingly gain control of game one but the two teams rattled off single points until the conclusion of Brockport's first dropped set of the season.

The second set looked to be trouble as Brockport stumbled out of the gate to a 3-0 deficit, however the Golden Eagles quickly took control rallying around the play of middles Capone and Richardson. The two second-year Green and Gold members totaled 11 of Brockport's 25 points in the match on kills alone evening the match at 1-1 with a 25-16 victory.

Brockport once again stumbled out of the gate to a 3-0 deficit in the momentum twisting third set. Emily Flohr momentarily infused some life in the Golden Eagles with a kill to put the team on the board but little else went well in the set for Brockport as it fell 25-10.

Several Golden Eagle attackers put forth a valiant effort in the fourth and final set achieving a team hitting percentage of .349. Richardson, Barber, Capone and Holdredge each had three or more kills apiece in the set. Both teams worked extremely hard for points in the fourth set as several rallies took place but Brockport never led past an early 5-4 advantage.

Overall Capone finished the match with 16 kills to lead the way, while fellow middle Richardson tacked on 11 herself. Noelle Poloncarz tallied 36 assists with Jamie Schlesinger adding six more in the fourth set alone.

The Green and Gold travel back to Rochester this weekend for the RIT Invitational and has its first match set for Friday at 7 p.m. against Mount Saint Mary College.
