Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team is set to compete in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament on Saturday as the sixth seed. Brockport travels to take on the third seeded Cortland at 1 pm.
Back to the SUNYACs: Head Coach
Mike Idland has the Golden Eagles back in the SUNYACs for the second straight season. They have two conference championships in program history coming in 1983 and 2006. In the opening round of the 2019 SUNYAC Tournament, Brockport shutout Oneonta at home 3-0 to advance to the semifinals. The squad will look to have a similar performance on Saturday in an attempt to get back to the title game for the first time since 2008.
Last Time Out: In the last match Brockport defeated Buffalo State to clinch the sixth seed for the conference tournament. Brockport got the 1-0 shutout win to improve to 8-8-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the SUNYAC. With the score tied at 0-0 in the final ten minutes of regulation,
Camryn Pettit scored the game-winner from outside the box to put Brockport into the SUNYAC Tournament.
Goal Scorers: For the second season in a row,
Kiley Longin is Brockport's leading goal scorer. She has six scores heading into the postseason which places her inside the top ten in the SUNYAC.
Katie Hotaling has totaled five goals, while
Camryn Pettit,
Julia Mascaro, and
Sydnee Smith each have found the back of the net four times.
Helping Hands: Julia Mascaro leads the squad with six assists on the season, placing her second among all players in the SUNYAC.
Camryn Pettit is second with three assists, while
Sydnee Smith,
Lara Kanbur, and
Sophia DeAngelo all have been credited with two helpers on the year.
In Net: Senior goalkeeper
Guliana Parisi has held it down in the net for the Golden Eagles down the final stretch of the regular season. She has started each of the last six matches, tallying two shutouts. Parisi has made 15 saves on the year and is 3-3 as the starter.
Against Cortland: The last time these two teams faced off, Cortland got the better of Brockport earlier this year with a 3-0 win. Although the squad failed to get on the scoreboard, the Green and Gold placed 10 shots on net compared to eight from the Red Dragons. This Saturday will be a rematch of the 2019 SUNYAC Semifinals, as the two squads battled for a spot in the conference title game in the last conference tournament. Cortland got the win, 5-1, in 2019 to eliminate and end Brockport's season.
SUNYAC Tournament: A win will put the Golden Eagles in the SUNYAC Semifinals where they would travel to Geneseo, NY on November 3
rd to take on the top seeded Geneseo Knights.
