Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team finishes up a seven-match span away from home Tuesday night at St. John Fisher. This non-conference battle is set to begin at 7 pm out in Rochester, NY.
Last Time Out: Brockport snapped a three-game losing streak last weekend with a win over Oswego. The squad swept the opposing Lakers on the road, 3-0, to improve to 10-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Green and Gold were in control of the match through all three sets, winning by scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-15. It was a much needed bounce back win before getting into the thick of SUNYAC competition.
Coming Back Home: Following Tuesday night's trip over to face Fisher, Brockport will finally get ready to play on its home court again. The team last played in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium on September 11
th when it defeated both Ithaca and Nazareth. The Golden Eagles are currently 6-0 on their home floor heading into a weekend with two home SUNYAC battles. They will play four straight matches at home before hitting the road again.
Team Leaders: Andrea Coyle's 160 kills and
Meaghan Mastro's 145 kills lead the Golden Eagle attack. The duo are both ranked top five in the SUNYAC in kills and are joined by teammate
Megan Loomis in the top ten for kills per set.
Kerri McHale is one of four in the entire conference with over 300 assists as the top setter for the Green and Gold.
Madalyn Bowen and
Shelby Budnick have been effective defensively with 209 and 119 digs respectively. Mastro also leads the squad with 39 total blocks coming from 19 solo and 20 block assists.
Around the SUNYAC: Brockport is 1-2 early on in conference play this year, currently towards to low end of the SUNYAC standings. Cortland and New Paltz both remain undefeated in the conference so far, while Fredonia, Geneseo, and Oneonta all have just one loss. Buffalo State is just one win ahead of Brockport in the standings. Plattsburgh, Potsdam, and Oswego round out the bottom of the conference as SUNYAC play begins to heat up.
Looking at Fisher: The Cardinals have been on a tear lately, winning eight straight matches heading into Tuesday night's battle with Brockport. They currently own a record of 11-3 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8. Lindsey DeBonis and Alea Steigerwald lead the team in kills, while Katie Leaty is the team's primary setter. The Green and Gold defeated St. John Fisher, 3-0, in 2019 to make it seven consecutive wins by way of a sweep against the Cardinals.
SUNYAC Filled Weekend: The Golden Eagles look to protect the nest this weekend against SUNYAC opponents Potsdam and Plattsburgh. They take on Potsdam Friday night at 6 pm before welcoming Plattsburgh at 1 pm on Saturday. Fisher has registered six, 3-0 sweeps during this hot streak.
