Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team is at home on Wednesday for a non-conference match with Keuka College. The action gets going at 4 pm.
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles defeated St. John Fisher in their last outing, 4-0. They were able to score in the first two minutes of the match to take control early on. A second goal right before halftime gave the team a comfortable 2-0 lead. Two more scores in the second half provided extra cushion as Brockport cruised to the shutout victory over the Cardinals.
Road Warriors: The Green and Gold have been fantastic on the road so far, going 2-0 in matches away from home. The team has been dominant in away games, winning both contests by a combined score of 8-0. Prior to the most recent 4-0 win on the road at Fisher, Brockport traveled for a 4-0 win against Houghton the week before.
Goal Scorers: Katie Hotaling remains the leading goal scorer for the Golden Eagles after notching her first career hat trick against Houghton. In the win over Fisher,
Brylie Hapeman got on the board with her first two goals of the season.
Sydnee Smith also has two goals on the year so far thanks to a score in the last contest.
Julia Mascaro,
Lara Kanbur, and
Franchesca Polcaro all have on goal at this point in the season.
Welcome Back: The 2019 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year,
Kiley Longin made her season debut against Fisher after missing the first three games. She led the conference in total points and goals that season. Longin picked up right where she left off in the win, making an instant impact with an assist on Brockport's first goal of the game. She also found the back of the net herself in the contest, finishing with three total points in just 25 minutes of play.
Clean Sheet: Kayla Usborne recorded the shutout against Fisher, playing the full 90 minutes to make five saves in the win. She now has one solo and one combined shutout this season, both coming on the road. Facing a total of 46 shots so far this season, Usborne has made 20 saves and allowed just four goals to earn a .833 save percentage.
2021 vs 2019: In 2019 the program had its best finish under Head Coach
Mike Idland, and its best since 2013 with a 12-7-1 record overall. Through the first five games the team was 2-3 overall in 2019, and it is off to a better start in 2021 already. Brockport is currently 2-1-1, improved from a 2-2 start through four games in 2019, and can take another step forward with a win on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles have progressively performed better since Idland took over in 2016 and are on track to continue trending upwards.
Looking at Keuka: The Wolves have struggled so far this season, owning a 0-4-1 record overall going into Wednesday's contest. They have two shutout losses, coming against RIT and Penn College. Keuka found the back of the net in a 2-1 loss to Smith College, and in its most recent 2-1 loss to Lycoming. The team earned a 1-1 draw on the road against Nichols earlier in the season. Brockport is 5-0 all-time against Keuka, as the two programs will play for the first time in over a decade on Wednesday.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles are home again this Saturday as they welcome RIT for a big non-conference battle. The match is set to begin at 1 pm.
