Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team is back on its home field this Saturday for a SUNYAC battle with the Geneseo Knights. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 pm at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.
Last Time Out: Brockport fell to the University of Rochester in its last contest, 2-1. The squad scored early on in the contest to take a 1-0 lead.
Camryn Pettit scored the unassisted goal for the Green and Gold, netting her first of the season. The hosting Yellowjackets answered with a goal of their own shortly after to tie the score up at 1-1. A late goal would give Rochester its 2-1 advantage to secure the win. Brockport's record now stands at 4-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the SUNYAC.
Conference Leaders: Julia Mascaro remains tied for first in the SUNYAC with a total of 12 points on four goals and four assists. Mascaro's four scores is tied for second in the conference, while teammate
Katie Hotaling has also netted four goals. Mascaro is also tied for tops in the SUNYAC with her four assists, while
Sophia DeAngelo is top ten in the league with two helpers.
Goal Scorers: Mascaro and Hotaling lead the Green and Gold with four goals each this season.
Kiley Longin,
Sydnee Smith, and
Brylie Hapeman have all found the back of the net twice so far.
Lara Kanbur,
Camryn Pettit, and
Franchesca Polcaro scored one goal each heading into the weekend.
Helping Out: Mascaro and DeAngelo have combined for six assists to pace the Golden Eagles so far this fall. Multiple other players have assisted on goals as well this year.
Ellen Walpole,
Katherine Olsen, and
Sam Maghrak each have an assist to their name. Smith, Kanbur, Longin, and Pettit all have an assist as well.
In Net: Victoria Cangialosi made her first career start against Rochester last time out. Cangialosi tallied seven saves, as the freshman logged a full 90 minutes of work in net in the loss.
Kayla Usborne leads the team's goalkeepers with 37 saves and three shutouts in eight starts between the pipes.
Around the SUNYAC: Brockport sits in third place in the conference with a 1-0-1 mark against SUNYAC opponents. Both teams at 2-0 in the conference, only Geneseo and Plattsburgh are above Brockport in the standings. Fredonia, Cortland, and Oswego all have one win, while Oneonta, Buffalo State, New Paltz, and Potsdam have yet to win a conference match.
Looking at Geneseo: The Knights are atop the SUNYAC standings with a 7-2 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the conference. Currently on a three-match win streak, Geneseo has shutout three straight opponents to outscore its foes 10-0 during this span. The team most recently defeated Alfred State, 7-0, at home. Hannah Sullivan leads the squad and is tied for first in the conference with 12 total points on four goals and four assists. Brockport came up short in 2019 against Geneseo, losing to the Knights 1-0.
