Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport Women's Soccer team will travel on the road this week for the first week of SUNYAC Play. Brockport will travel to Buffalo State on Wednesday, September 20
th for a 7pm start. The Women will then head up to North Country for a 1pm game on Saturday, September 23
rd against Plattsburgh State. The women enter conference play with a record of 6-1.
Last Time Out: The women's soccer team extended its win streak to five in a row after a dominating, 6-1, performance Wednesday evening against Allegheny College. Brockport has now improved to 5-1, marking the best start with the team for Head Coach
Mike Idland and the best start for the program since 2014.
Jaylah Cossin had a big game for the Green and Gold, posting her first hat trick since joining the team. She leads the Golden Eagles on the season with 15 total points (5 goals, 5 assists).
Katie Hotaling got the ball rolling scoring first for the Golden Eagles at 11:12 in the first half. The power team of
Lara Kanbur and
Karlie Mannstruck again as Mann sent the ball to Kanbur who buried it in the net for Brockport's second goal of the game. The team held a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Jaylah Cossin opened the second period in with three goals in a row all unassisted. Cossin scored her first goal at 53:49. She scored her second at 56:37 and her final goal at 80:22 earning her a hat trick.
Allison Thoman sent the ball across the field to
Kaleigh Pettit who scored at 86:12 in the second half.
The Golden Eagles were unable to keep their shutout streak alive, as Alleghany scored in the final minutes of play. Brockport put up a total of 23 shots total, 15 of which were on goal, compared to Alleghany's 8 total and 3 on goal. Brockport was awarded three corner kicks while the Gators got one.
In goal for the Green and Gold was
Madeline McCrosson and
Karissa Champion. McCrosson spent 83:00 in goal making two saves and allowing no goals. Champion spent 7:00 in goal and allowed one goal.
The following Saturday the team beat Juniata College, 1-0, at home for its Community and Youth Celebration Game. This is the Golden Eagles sixth straight win, giving them an overall record of 6-1 on the season thus far.
At 6-1, the Green and Gold are now off to the program's best start since beginning the 2012 season 7-0-1.
McKenna Slate scored Brockport's lone goal, assisted by teammate
Jaylah Cossin at 42:44. Slate now has three goals on the season. Cossin's helper gives her a team-high of six assists and increases her points total to a team-best 16.

SUNYAC Accolades: On Monday, September 18
th, the SUNYAC conference announced that
Jaylah Cossin and
Madeline McCrosson have received SUNYAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Jaylah Cossin was critical to the Golden Eagles' offensive outburst last week against Allegheny College, scoring a true hat trick with all 3 goals being scored in a row, all unassisted. Cossin holds a .889 shot-on-goal percentage and ranks 3
rd in the country in assists with 6. Cossin finished the week averaging 3.5 points per game.
Madeline McCrosson started in both wins over the weekend for Brockport, playing over 170 minutes in goal and allowing no goals with 5 saves. McCrosson ranks 10
th in the country and 1
st among SUNYAC goalies in save percentage (0.996).
Looking at the Bengals: Buffalo State is 5-0-1 going into Wednesday matchup. They have a total of 26 goals so far this season and average 4.33 goals a game. They have recorded a total of 153 shots this year and average 25.5 shots a game. Kaylee Valentic leads the Bengal's with six goals and five assists. Elle Bush is second on the team for goals with six.
In goal for the Bengals are Sam Kaufman, Moria Penot and Addy Williams. Kaufman has started three games this season playing, playing 180:00 minutes, she hasn't allowed any goals, but has made six saves. Penot has started one game, played 90:00 minutes and made no saves, but allowed no goals. Williams has played in four games, but started two, playing 270:00 minutes so far this season. She has allowed one goal and made 15 saves.
Looking at the Cardinals: Plattsburgh State is 2-2-1 going into this weekend's match. They have a total of 11 goals and average 2.20 goals a game. They have a total of 61 shots and average 12.2 shots a game. Their leading scorer is Avery Dugan with three goals and three assists. Nora Fitzgerald is right behind her with two goals on the season and three assists as well.
In goal for the Cardinals are Lily Bailey and Lauren Haley. Bailey played 29:47 minutes this season, allowing four goals and making five saves. Haley has played 420:13 minutes this season making 24 saves and allowing 9 goals.
Brockport will return home on Monday September 25
th at 2pm against Hilbert College. Brockport will host Oswego State the following Wednesday the 27
th at 4pm and stay for another SUNYAC match up that Saturday at 11am against Oneonta on September 30
th.
