Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team is on the road this weekend to compete at the nearby RIT Invitational. The first match of the event is scheduled for a 4:30pm start on Friday, September 6^th against Hamilton College.

Opening Weekend: Last week Brockport went 2-1 on opening weekend at the DeSales Quad in Pennsylvania. The squad defeated DeSales (3-1) and Rutgers-Camden (3-0), but lost the matchup with Stevenson (3-1). Brockport battled hard all weekend, as every set against DeSales and Stevenson was decided by six or less points.
 
Rookie of the Week: Freshman Lauren Emke was chosen as the E8 Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week after her play at DeSales Emke was effective both offensively and defensively for the Golden Eagles in her first weekend of collegiate play, hitting .362 with 23 kills, 10 blocks (0.91 blocks per set) and 31.5 points (2.9 points per set).
 
In her debut against DeSales, Emke finished with 10 kills on a .471 attack percentage and had four block assists from the middle. Emke added five kills, three service aces, one solo block, and two more block assists against Stevenson. To close out the weekend, she posted eight kills with a .400 attacking percentage to go with three more block assists.
 
RIT Invitational Schedule: The Golden Eagles open the weekend in Rochester against Hamilton College at 4:30pm on Friday. It will be the first match of the season for the Continentals who went 10-10 overall last year. Game two of the weekend is Saturday, September 7^th against Springfield College at 11am. The Pride started the season 1-2 and will face Hamilton on Friday ahead of Saturday's match with Brockport. The Buffalo State Bengals will be the final opponent of the slate, set for a 4pm start on Saturday. They head into the weekend 0-3 overall.
 
Team Stat Leaders: Lauren Emke's big debut weekend has her leading Brockport with 31.5 total points, just slightly ahead of Alenna Williamson's 31.0 points. Williamson is first on the team with 28 kills. Kaitlyn Jewett linked up with her teammates for team-high 65 assists as the setter on the floor. Freshman Lauryn Forand is second with 45 assists to go with a team-best six aces so far. Defensively, Elsie Logan has come up with 41 digs to lead the squad. Emke protected the net with 10 total blocks (1 solo, 9 assisted), while Maddy Howell has seven block assists.
 
Coming Up Next: Following the events at the RIT Invitational, Brockport will get the week to prepare for another trip to Rochester. The Golden Eagles will compete at the University of Rochester Invitational, starting against Amherst College on Friday, September 13^th at 7pm. They will then take on the U of R (11am) and Buffalo State (3pm) on Saturday.
