BROCKPORT, NY — For the second consecutive week,
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste has been named the Empire 8 Women's Basketball Co-Athlete of the Week, following a dominant performance that powered the Golden Eagles to a 2-1 record this past week. The veteran leader was the engine behind Brockport's strong showing at the 58 Main BBQ & Brew Tip-Off Classic, held right here at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
The Green and Gold faced a tough start to the week, falling to Hamilton, but Jean-Baptiste still made her presence felt. In the loss earlier in the week, she was steady, dropping 13 points and grabbing 7 rebounds, complemented by 3 assists and 2 steals.
The momentum shifted over the weekend as the Golden Eagles swept their two tournament games, thanks in large part to Jean-Baptiste's all-around excellence. Over the two-game tournament stretch, she stuffed the stat sheet, averaging a staggering 23 points on a remarkably efficient 56.7% shooting from the field. Her work on the glass was equally impressive, pulling down 9.5 rebounds per game, including 5 crucial offensive rebounds, while also disrupting opponents with 3 steals and 1.5 blocks across the tournament.
Jean-Baptiste opened the classic by leading the Golden Eagles to a dominating 86-66 victory over William Smith. She secured a stellar double-double with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds, adding defensive punch with 2 blocks and 2 steals.
The following day, Brockport closed out the tournament with a close, nail-biting 80-75 win over Ithaca. Jean-Baptiste rose to the occasion, leading the charge with a game-high 25-point outing on hyper-efficient 12-of-21 shooting from the floor. She nearly recorded a second double-double, snagging 9 rebounds, while locking down the passing lanes with 4 steals and adding a key block.
For the 2-1 week, the veteran led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 51 points and tied for the team high in rebounding with 23 total rebounds. Jean-Baptiste's consistent performance is reflected in her season totals, where she currently leads Brockport in PPG (19), rebounds (8), and three-pointers made (11).
The Golden Eagles currently sit even with a 3-3 record as they prepare for a non-conference road game. They will face the local RIT with tip-off scheduled for Tuesday, December 2nd, at 6 p.m.
