Lauren Mastromarco was named the Empire 8 Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after she anchored the Golden Eagles' defense in a strong three-game stretch over the opening week.
Mastromarco put together an elite weekend between the pipes, making 16 saves and surrendering just two goals across 165 minutes of play. Her week was highlighted by a combined shutout performance against Allegheny on September 5th, where she started and played 45 scoreless minutes, making five saves to anchor a 3-0 victory.
She kicked off her award-winning week on September 1st with a season-high nine saves in a complete 60-minute performance during Brockport's 3-1 season opening victory over John Carroll. Mastromarco capped off the weekend slate with two saves in a tight, 60-minute effort against Juniata.
The Golden Eagles currently sit at 2-1 on the season. Brockport returns to Dr. Linda Arena & Class of '69 Field to host the University of Rochester for the Pediatric Cancer Awareness Game on Wednesday, September 9th, at 7 p.m.
