Freshman
Maria Malone (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) scored very early in the game and senior
Amanda White (Feura Bush, NY/R-C-S) added a second half goal to lead The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team to a 2-0 road win over SUNY Cobleskill in a non-conference game to complete the regular-seas schedule.
Malone was on the receiving end of a
Sarah Lawson (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) pass and scored in the first two minutes of the contest to give Brockport (11-5-1) the early lead.
The game, that started several minutes late due to a late arriving officiating crew, remained at 1-0 through the first half but early in the second half, White scored an unassisted goal to put the Golden Eagles up by a 2-0 score.
Head coach
Joan Schockow was able to use her entire bench to finish out the game with every able-bodied Golden Eagles seeing action against the Fighting Tigers (3-12-2).
“We got off to a quick start but had a lot of opportunities to add to the lead,” said Schockow. “We created opportunities but just didn't finish many of them off. We took advantage of the play and worked on a few different things in preparation for the SUNYAC Tournament.”
The Golden Eagles open the SUNYAC Tournament with a road game Saturday against Fredonia with the winner of that game advancing to play No. 2 seed New Paltz at 1 pm Wednesday, November 2.
Erin Asquith (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) and
Kristen LeForte (Tuxedo, NY/Tuxedo) combined to record the shutout victory in the Brockport goal with each making one save.
The shutout win is the third straight for Brockport and the current shutout streak stands at 283:02.
