Arielle Schneider (Plainview, NY/Plainview-Bethpage) scored her first career goal converting a penalty kick eight minutes into the game as The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team cruised to a 6-0 victory Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game against Canton in Brockport.
Junior
Brooke Greer (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) put the Golden Eagles (7-3-1) on the board early in the game as she took a pass from
Sarah Petrie (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and dribbled along the end line before sending a shot past the Canton (3-8) goalie for the 1-0 Brockport lead six minutes into the contest.
Less than two minutes later after a Brockport player was tackled in the box and a yellow card was issued to Canton goalie Colleen Fagan, Schneider moved up from her sweeper position to take the penalty shot and calmly drilled a ball into the right side of the goal for a 2-0 Brockport advantage.
Junior
Gina Laing (Holland, NY/Holland-Patent) sent a long, hard shot into the back of the net from 25 yards out four minutes later to make it an early 3-0 advantage for Brockport.
“We have been working hard to increase our attack,” said head coach
Joan Schockow. “It was nice to see that happen today with some nice goals.”
Late in the first half, freshman
Kate Smith (Honeoye, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) scored her first goal of the season as she took advantage of a goalie misplay on a long shot leaving her with the loose ball alone in front of the goal.
In the second half, senior
Amanda White (Feura Bush, NY/RCS) fired a hard shot inside the far post after a short pass from freshman
Alex Strutt (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) inside the 18-yard box. Four minutes later, junior
Kendzie Wohleben (Olcott, NY/Newfane) found herself on the scoring end of a long crossing pass from sophomore
Laura Hanford (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) to cap the scoring.
Senior
Erin Asquith (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) made one save in 69 minutes of action and junior
Erin Beach (Falconer, NY/Falconer) finished the game in the Brockport goal making one save over the final 21 minutes of action.
Brockport returns to action Saturday, October 8 with a 1 pm game against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe Geneseo in Brockport.
