Women’s Soccer Records Shutout At Oberlin

Golden Eagles hold on to early lead in victory

Junior Kaila Maguire scored her third goal of the season in Saturday's win
BOXSCORE

Junior Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) scored the game-winning goal for The College at Brockport women's soccer team early in a 1-0 victory at Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon.

The win is the second straight for the Golden Eagles, who move to 4-1-1 this season. The loss drops Oberlin to 3-4-1 on the year.

Maguire pounced on a rebound of senior Sarah Petrie's (Oswego, NY/Oswego) shot to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game on her third goal of the season.

Brockport continued to pepper Oberlin goalie Kate Frost, firing 14 shots on goal to just two for the Yeowomen in the contest. In all, the Golden Eagles outshot Oberlin 21-7 in the game, with Maguire registering seven shots of her own.

“It was a hard-fought battle,” head coach Joan Schockow said. “We created a lot of opportunities and I wish we could have converted on more, but a win is a win.”

Senior goalie Erin Asquith (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) earned her fourth shutout of the season, with the help of the Brockport defense. Asquith made two saves in the triumph. Frost turned in 13 saves on the day in a losing effort.

The Golden Eagles open up their conference schedule on Friday at Buffalo State at 4 pm.
