BOXSCORE
The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team surrendered two first-half goals and dropped a 5-0 decision to Dickinson College – ranked #16 in the preseason national coaches poll – Friday afternoon in the first game of the season in the first round of the Red Devil Classic Tournament at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.
After a scoreless first 22 minutes of the contest, Dickinson (1-0) opened the scoring as Samantha Friday scored the first of her two goals on the day. The freshman added her second goal 15 minutes later to boost the Red Devil lead to 2-0.
In the second half, sophomore Julia Thayer netted a pair of goals in a span of 10 minutes with the first coming in the 60th minutes to give Dickinson a 4-0 advantage. The Red Devils added their final goal with 10 minutes remaining for the final score.
“I don't think I have ever been involved in a 5-0 loss when I honestly thought at time we were outplaying the opponent,” said head coach Joan Schockow. “We did some great things especially in the first half but we were just unable to finish off the plays.”
Senior Erin Asquith (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) made her 37th career start for the Golden Eagles in goal and recorded two saves.
“Despite the final score, I think this was a good start,” said Schockow. “We just need to figure out a way to not let the mistakes happen again.”
Brockport will play Allegheny College in the second game of the Classic at 2:30 pm Saturday at Dickinson.
